SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As temperatures hit highs across the county's eastern portion, officials are taking annual precautions to close several popular hiking areas.Six county parks will be closed throughout August, including El Capitan Preserve near Lakeside, Hellhole Canyon Preserve in Valley Center, Mt. Gower Preserve near Ramona, Wilderness Gardens in Pala, Agua Caliente Regional Park in Anza Borrego, and Vallecito County Park near Julian.Agua Caliente Regional Park and Vallecito County Park are closed all summer until Labor Day weekend.The closure also gives park staff the chance to perform maintenance and other upgrades and restoration projects.For hiking and park areas that remain open all summer, county Parks and Recreation officials encourage visitors to always hike with others, leave pets at home on difficult hikes, take plenty of water and food, and dress appropriately for the activity. 913

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California state officials have issued their COVID-19 guidelines for gathering during the holidays. With less than two weeks until Thanksgiving, the guidelines include things like physical distancing and wearing a mask when not eating or drinking. There are specific guidelines for counties in the purple tier, like San Diego County. Counties in the purple tier are required to gather outdoors. Health officials recommend no more than three households and limiting the gathering to two hours or less. Infectious disease specialists say the guidelines are strict, but necessary to slow the spread of the virus. Other recommendations include having guests frequently wash their hands and having only one person serve food and beverages, with a mask on. Older and at-risk individuals are advised not to attend. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As Seaworld San Diego reopens its doors this weekend, an East County grandmother and passholder says she and her grandson won't be making a visit.Visiting SeaWorld is one of Rose Becker's favorite things to do with her 4-year-old grandson Vincent."He just loves walking around and looking at the dolphins, orcas, and sea lions," said Becker.So when SeaWorld announced they would be reopening, she got excited.RELATED: Several San Diego County businesses to reopen indoors with limits under new guidance"I was planning on taking him Sunday. Was so excited to hear SeaWorld was back open. My grandson was so excited ... and then my excitement, down to frustration," said Becker.She was frustrated because of the cost. The park's attractions will be limited to outdoor animal exhibits and shows. A ticket will include food, drink, and merchandise. Passholders like Becker get a complimentary ticket but must pay for the lanyard for the food and beverages.
