Do you find it hard to make friends as an adult? If you’re having a difficult time meeting new people, you’re not alone. There are reasons behind the struggle, but there are mobile apps that can actually help you make new friends.Relationship expert YY Wei says as we get older, our past gets in the way of putting ourselves out there and meeting new people."Anytime we get hurt, in any type of relationship, it's going to have an emotional impact on us," says Wei. "And that means it's going to impede our own courage to reach out to people again."  A recent study out of the University of Kansas found that it takes about 50 hours of socializing to go from an acquaintance to a casual friend. If you want to become close friends, the study found it takes 200 hours of socialization. Most of us don’t have that kind of time, so there are apps that can help. For example, there’s a newer app called Girl Crew. It’s similar to dating apps. You simply create a profile, begin a chat and then if you like the person, you can set up a time and place to meet. Another app is Skout. You can use it to meet new people, no matter where you are, even if you’re just visiting. "The app helps because you know the basic stuff about this person," explains Wei. "Do we share the same hobbies, do we like the same music, and do we like to do similar things going hiking, going out drinking or happy hour."  If apps aren’t for you, Wei says to do what you like to do and meet people that way. So, if you like working out, you can meet friends at the gym. But if you’re going to stay in your comfort zone, you need to push yourself a little. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Jurors Wednesday found that an officer in El Cajon acted reasonably when he fatally shot Ugandan Immigrant Alfred Olango. The jury found Richard Gonsalves' actions not negligent 12-0. On September 27, 2016, Olango’s sister called 911 to report that her 38-year-old brother was displaying erratic behavior and walking out into traffic. Two officers arrived and spotted Olango in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant on the 800 block of Broadway, ordering him to remove his hands from his pockets. Olango pulled something out of his pocket officers believed was a gun and, according to police, he assumed “what appeared to be a shooting stance” and made some kind of movement. DETROIT, Michigan — At his annual State of the City address last year, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan applauded his police department for continuing to drop the average response time for 911 calls inside the city."It's a far cry from the days when 911 calls averaged 30 minutes," Duggan said to applause. Now, according to police officials, officers arrive on the scene in about 12 minutes, sometimes sooner.But don't tell that to the mother of a young woman who called 911 again and again last month, only to have police show up days later."It failed for us," she said through tears.The mother asked that we conceal her face to protect the identity of her daughter, who she says is the victim of a crime.The trouble started on the afternoon of September 15.  The mother, who we'll call Sandra, was visiting her young adult daughter on Detroit's west side when she heard screaming as she stepped out of her car."I run up to the door because I realized it was my daughter," she said. "She comes to the door and he's behind her, he's attacking her."Her daughter's boyfriend, who she said has been abusive in the past, was pounding her with his fists.  Sandra ran up to the door and called 911. It was 1:29 PM."Detroit 911, what's the address of your emergency?" asked a dispatcher, according to recordings obtained by WXYZ television station."My daughter's boyfriend was beating the (expletive) out of her," she said breathlessly into the phone before providing her address.The dispatcher said she'd send a car that way, but 40 minutes went by and no one showed up.Sandra called again, but this time she received an automated message. She hung up and dialed 911 once more."Another automated message," she said.At 2:17 p.m., she made her fourth call, this time reaching a dispatcher."I already called it in 45 minutes ago and I still haven't had a police officer come yet," she told the woman on the other end of the line. Again she was told officers would be dispatched, and again she waited. No one came.Finally, at 3:01 p.m., she called once more. This time, she asked to speak to a supervisor."I already called it in twice now," she said, "It's been an hour and a half and nobody shows up."The dispatcher responded: "Hold on, let me see what's going on here," before transferring Sandra to a supervisor.No one from DPD, according to the family, showed up on Saturday.Around 5 p.m. that same day, Sandra said, her daughter's boyfriend returned."He had climbed back through her window and attacked her again," she said.Detroit police didn't arrive at the west side home until the following Wednesday afternoon, a full four days and 34 minutes after the first call to 911.Assistant Chief James White made no excuses when he spoke with WXYZ television station about the delay last week."It absolutely disturbs me, if that's actually what happened," White said, adding that the department is still investigating the incident.White said the investigation has "has already found some failures and there will be accountability for those failures."A police spokeswoman tells WXYZ that officers were, in fact, nearby on the Saturday Sandra called 911 and should have been directed to the home. Assistant Chief White says an internal investigation is still ongoing but said everyone deserved a prompt response from 911 in Detroit."She's already been contacted. She was issued an apology from the commander, and I will personally talk to her if she would like to talk to me," White said.An apology is something, says the young woman's mother, but it won't solve what she now says is her biggest fear: the next time her daughter needs 911, she won't bother to call."She's not feeling protected," Sandra said. During a stop for his book tour in Missoula, Montana, Monday night, former Vice President Joe Biden discussed his 2020 prospects, saying he believes that he is the "most qualified person" to be president, noting a decision is coming in the next two months, and acknowledging he's a "gaffe machine.""I'll be as straight with you as I can. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The owner of a bike shop came upon a heartbreaking scene: glass everywhere and pricey, custom bikes stolen. "You just feel violated right away," said Jason Guthrie, owner of Chainline Bikes on Pioneer Way.On Sunday morning, he went to his shop to fetch a bike for a ride. "Came around and saw the cable had been pulled through the window. All the glass was here. My heart dropped. It was on the floor with the glass," said Guthrie.The intruder had tossed a large rock, smashing a side glass door. The alarm didn't go off. Once inside, the intruder sliced the security cable."There were four empty slots in the rack," said Guthrie.Four mountain bikes - three of them custom made - were missing, worth about ,000."For a small shop, a couple thousand dollars worth makes a huge difference ... keeps our lights on for the next month," said Guthrie.Among the bikes that vanished is "Mary." "Everybody knew the bike by name," said Guthrie.Painted by the shop, the bike became well known in the mountain biking community and the shop's mascot."Whenever I would go to bike parks from here up to Whistler, Canada, they would know my bike and not necessarily me," said Guthrie.Guthrie says one of the bikes had actually sold online the night it was stolen.
