OTAY MESA (CNS) - A fisherman reported seeing what appeared to be a body in Upper Otay Lake this afternoon.The sighting at the reservoir east of Chula Vista was reported shortly after 2 p.m., according to police.Patrol officers investigated and, unable to confirm or discount the report, called in city lifeguards.By the time the dive team got to the lake, however, it was getting too late for an effective underwater search, said Jose Ysea, a spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.The divers planned to return for a thorough search on Wednesday, Ysea said. 578

(KGTV) - North San Diego County police are searching for a documented gang member they say killed a man outside his home in 2016.Edgar Hernandez Saavedra, 29, was named as the suspect of Miguel Luis Castillo's murder on August 20, 2016, Oceanside Police said.Saavedra was arguing with Castillo outside the man's home in the 800 block of Langford St. at about 2:40 a.m. Police said the argument escalated and Saavedra shot and killed Castillo with a semi-automatic handgun.ORIGINAL REPORT: Man shot, killed in Oceanside; Suspect at largeSince then, Saavedra's whereabouts have been unknown.Police describe Saavedra as a Hispanic male, with brown hair and brown eyes, standing about 5-foot 6-inches tall, and weighing 175 pounds. (KGTV) -- A man died early Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle while crossing State Route 76, according to the Oceanside Police Department.The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on SR-76 near Old Grove Road.Police say a 2005 Lexus sedan was traveling westbound on the 76 when the driver struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the road. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.After hitting the man, the driver pulled to the center median and waited for police to arrive.“Neither Alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision on the driver’s part. It is unknown the pedestrian was under the influence of any substance at this time,” police said.The name of the pedestrian has not been released.
