Hillary Clinton told a receptive audience over the weekend in India that while she thought President Donald Trump played to some of Americans' worst fears, he does not reflect the country as a whole."No, we did not deserve that," Clinton said when asked if the US "deserves" Trump as its leader.Clinton called the 2016 presidential race the "first reality TV campaign," and said Trump, as a bombastic "reality TV candidate," was able to win over enough of the audience to win the election. And in comments seized on by the Republican National Committee, Clinton said she had won sections of the country with more economic output and attributed some of Trump's insurgent victory to a series of social and economic anxieties and discriminatory attitudes among his supporters."I won the places that represent two-thirds of America's gross domestic product," Clinton said. "So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward. And his whole campaign, 'Make America Great Again,' was looking backwards. You know, you didn't like black people getting rights, you don't like women, you know, getting jobs, you don't want to, you know, see that Indian-American succeeding more than you are, whatever your problem is, I'm going to solve it."Clinton said there is "the phenomenon of disappointment" about economic outcomes, particularly after the 2008 financial crisis, one of three main areas where she said she sees Americans' fears play out.Second, she pointed to "a reaction to advancing opportunities and rights for other groups," citing advancements for African-Americans, the LGBT community and women -- and said the third area was "the reaction against immigrants."As for Trump's conduct on the international stage, Clinton pointed to the President's "affinity for dictators," including Russian President Vladimir Putin. But when asked if the Russians have anything compromising on Trump, Clinton said, "We'll find out. Follow the money."She made clear later in the discussion that she did not know where the special counsel's investigation into Russian election meddling and possible coordination with Trump's team is likely to lead."Whether or not it affects him or just people around him, nobody knows," Clinton said. 2266

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — David Burkard, a 28-year-old Emergency Room doctor at Spectrum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is currently working on his residency, but about two weeks ago he was a patient at the same hospital, due to COVID-19.“I woke up on a Thursday morning, just not really feeling like myself. I had a fever, cough, short of breath, fatigue, all the classic symptoms”, he explained. But Burkard admits, as someone who runs five days a week with no underlying health concerns, he wasn’t real concerned about how it would affect him. “I am a young healthy guy. Probably prior to getting it, I probably at one point said, ‘I hope I can just get it and get it over with,' because I didn’t think it would hit me,” Burkard added.Nearly a week of not feeling well, Burkard thought he was getting better, but his symptoms quickly took a turn for the worse he explains. "On day six, someone dropped a package off on my door and I got up out of bed and went and picked it up. And it’s about ten steps to my door, and I bent over and picked up the package and was like, ‘Oh, that’s not normal.’” A couple of days later, he went to his own workplace, the Spectrum Health Emergency Room, due to his dropping oxygen levels, which went from the high 90s to the low 80s. “That’s when you start to worry that like, your organs, your liver, kidney, brain, heart start to not get enough oxygen,” he said. After three days in the hospital and receiving supplemental oxygen, convalescent plasma and Remdesivir, Burkard turned the corner and was released to go home.He now thinks this experience will make him an even more compassionate doctor once he’s allowed to return to the work that he loves. “I think it definitely changes the way I practice medicine, going into those conversations in the future. The 75-year-old man who says goodbye to his 75-year-old wife before we put a breathing tube in, or the 50-year-old man who has to zoom with his family because he’s going downhill quickly. Those are experiences that we, as emergency medicine physicians, deal with every day. I mean, my experience was not the same, I did not have to get a breathing tube. Another takeaway is just the loneliness that I felt when I was admitted to the hospital and being able to relate to patients now on that level is something that’s important to me," Burkard explained. He is now urging everyone to take this virus seriously as we head into a holiday season where we usually gather with family and friends. This story originally reported by Derek Francis on FOX17online.com 2553

Hawaii will remain effectively closed to tourists until at least October 1.The state currently has a strict 14-day quarantine for anyone coming to the islands, tourists and returning residents alike. The quarantine stopped tourism as it states anyone arriving must remain at a home or hotel for 14 days (not a vacation rental), and cannot visit other islands or tourist locations, or rent a car. This quarantine plan started in March and was supposed to be relaxed September 1 to allow visitors to bypass the quarantine if they presented a negative COVID-19 test. However, Hawaii Gov. David Ige announced this week the quarantine plan will remain as it is at least until September 30."We will continue to monitor the conditions here in Hawaii as well as key markets on the mainland to determine the appropriate start date for the pre-travel (COVID-19) testing program," he said.As of Tuesday, Hawaii had a total of 5,349 reported COVID-19 cases and 41 deaths from the disease. 983

HAMPTON, Va. — Students and teachers across Hampton Roads are preparing to start the school year virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That means empty classrooms for a lot of teachers in the area, including Kecoughtan High School."Now it's a little bit different because you're looking around and going, 'Hey, they're not going to be filled,'" said Mark Mingee, a history and government teacher at the school and a 20-year teaching veteran. "I'm going to be looking at a screen to see their faces, as opposed to seeing them right in front of me."But Mingee is making his classroom a little fuller. He created a fundraiser where people can donate to a scholarship fund and have their picture shown on a desk.Mingee, an avid sports fan, said he got the idea after seeing several leagues around the world fill empty stands with cardboard cutouts."You started to see these images on screens various places, or in the transition of cardboard cutouts of people in the stands," he said. "The more I thought about it, the more I thought, 'Hey, if I'm going to be in my classroom, and I want there to be people around me, the best thing to do is try to emulate that in some way.'"So far, he said many friends, alumni and current students have taken part."We're used to, as teachers, having each one of those seats filled. So, as it appears those seats are filled, it makes you feel like a normal, everyday moment in class," Mingee said. "Anything we can do to encourage these students to keep doing better, that's really what we want."He hopes to fill as many seats as possible to help him and his students. For Mingee, it's all about staying positive."You've got to be serious as a teacher, but if you can have a little bit of fun while being serious, all the better," he said. This story was originally published by Zak Dahlheimer on WTKR in Norfolk, Virginia. 1863

Health officials agree coronavirus cases are going to increase this winter as Americans head indoors to stay warm and closed windows will lead to less ventilation. But what about the dry air inside and outside this time of year, could a humidifier help slow the spread of coronavirus? That is still being debated.A study released this month seems to suggest increasing humidity plays a role in decreasing cases of coronavirus. The study, which has not been peer-reviewed yet, was shared on medRxiv. This study was based on the premise that previous studies have shown that falling humidity is tied to increased transmission rates of other respiratory diseases, like the flu. Researchers looked at more than 3,000 counties around the country and their humidity levels between March and September 2020.The team says they found increasing humidity levels had a negative impact on new cases of COVID-19 in most regions. In two of the regions that showed the highest effect, a 1 g/m3 increase in absolute humidity resulted in a 0.21 and 0.15 decrease in COVID-19 cases. However, there are also studies that show the humidity level had little to no effect on the spread of COVID-19.A study released in early November found the weather had “virtually no impact” on the spread. Instead, they said human behavior changes during weather fluctuations, outside during warmer weather and heading indoor during cold weather, had a large impact. What health and science experts seem to agree on is that the air does get drier in the winter from both the cold air outside and heated air inside. And that without proper ventilation, any coronavirus droplets in a space could linger longer and become more concentrated. This dry air can also cause nasal passages to dry out, which means noses could have less protective mucus. Some doctors have said whether or not the science completely proves humid air can help slow the spread of coronavirus, having more humidity in the air can make this winter more comfortable and noses more able to protect against all virus. 2051
