(KGTV) — El Cajon Police and the NAACP say they are trying to reach out to the family of a man hit and killed by a car last week after family and friends accused police of shooting the man.Police say the protest stemmed from a Nov. 25 traffic fatality involving Stephen Harris, 29, of El Cajon. Harris was hit by a vehicle just before 9 p.m. in the 300 block of West Chase Ave. and died at the scene, according to police.EPD says the driver who hit Harris remained at the scene and tried to provide first aid to him, along with the help of a passenger in the vehicle. Police do not suspect the driver of driving under the influence or speeding at the time of the crash. Witnesses told police Harris suddenly walked into the roadway at the time of the crash, EPD added.Surveillance footage reportedly showed Harris leaving a nearby convenience store and stumbling before the collision, police said. Officials said a toxicology report is being conducted, but police said preliminary testing showed drugs and alcohol in Harris' system at the time of his death.Family and friends of Harris arrived at the scene after the crash and accused police of being involved in Harris' death, saying officers were stalking him, shot him, and were trying to cover it up. During a protest on Nov. 30, family and friends continued their accusations against the department, with some protesters obstructing traffic. EL CAJON (CNS) - A passenger in a vehicle was killed Sunday when its driver left the roadway in El Cajon and struck a light pole.The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the El Cajon Police Department reported.The driver allegedly was speeding westbound on Chase Avenue when the vehicle hit the pole near Wilson Avenue. Police and firefighters were dispatched at approximately 6:45 a.m. to the crash scene in the area of Chase and Wilson avenues.The driver was extracted from the vehicle, treated at the scene and then taken to a local hospital, police said. Disney is allowing guests at Magic Kingdom to wear Halloween costumes for the first time during normal park hours.The park recently announced in a blog post that guests of all ages can wear costumes from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31.In June, the park canceled its annual Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party because of the coronavirus pandemic.But this year, guests would be able to get into the Halloween spirit with costumes, themed foods, and merchandise, the park said.According to the park's website, costumes cannot contain sharp objects, they must be family-friendly, they can't have weapons, and anyone over the age of 14 cannot wear a mask with their outfit.Guests under the age of 13 can wear a mask, but it cannot cover the entire face, and their eyes must be visible.The park said costumes that "reach or drag on the ground" such as "full-length princess dresses" are not allowed.The park also added that all guests must still wear a face-covering while at the park. 978

EL CAJON (CNS) - A man who drove drunk and at high speed down a curving Campo roadway, causing a crash that killed his two passengers, was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder and other charges.Ryan Renz, 26, faces up to 30 years to life behind bars when he is sentenced Dec. 20 for the Jan. 25, 2017, crash that killed his friends, 23-year- old Johnny Ray Meyer Jr. and 26-year-old Dillon Cody Wiltfong.Prosecutors said Renz -- who was on probation and driving on a suspended license due to a prior DUI conviction -- was drunk when he crashed Wiltfong's Volkswagen Jetta into a tree on Buckman Springs Road, near Lake Morena Drive, in the evening hours of Jan. 25.RELATED: Campo crash leaves two dead, driver facing chargesOne of the victims was ejected and the other was trapped inside the vehicle. Renz suffered minor injuries.Deputy District Attorney Laura Evans said Renz and the victims drank throughout the afternoon of Jan. 25 before the defendant got behind the wheel and drove somewhere between 85 to 96 mph down Buckman Springs Road, then crashed the Jetta into an oak tree. The passenger's side of the sedan -- where both Meyer and Wiltfong were sitting -- took the brunt of the crash, according to the prosecutor.Evans said the high speed of the Jetta caught the attention of Border Patrol officers stationed near the scene, some of whom pursued the sedan, but were unable to stop it before the crash. (KGTV) - Surveillance video has recently captured multiple incidents of what appears to be a thief returning over and over to prey upon elderly residents of the Salvation Army apartment building in El Cajon.Apartment staff at the building on South Anza Street say there have been at least five robberies between October and Christmas Eve. Each appears to include the same thief."He's the lowest form of life in my book," building superintendent Alex Harmon told 10News. "To prey on the elderly. They've got walkers for crying out loud."In one incident captured on video, the man approached a 97-year-old woman taking a walk on the sidewalk outside the building. He was seen opening her bag, which was placed on her walker, then removing an item and walking away.The woman later told building staff that he had struck up a conversation about her walker and that she had offered him candy. She says he opened her bag and instead of taking candy, stole her wallet.In a separate incident, the suspected thief and what appears to be a lookout are seen carefully observing an elderly woman walking by. One man then turned and followed her around the corner. She told 10News that's when he raced up and grabbed her gold necklace, breaking off her gold cross, and running off.Multiple police reports have been filed with El Cajon Police Department, which is investigating. 1389
