Members of the Ottawa Senators were caught on camera slamming one of their coaches while they were in the Phoenix area to face the Arizona Coyotes last week, the Ottawa Sun reported Monday.During the video, Senators players made derogatory comments about an assistant coach during an Uber ride in the Valley. The conversation was being recorded, presumably by the Uber driver and without the knowledge of any of the players.Forward Matt Duchene, defenseman Chris Wideman, center Chris Tierney, defenseman Thomas Chabot, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, forward Colin White and forward Alex Formenton were in the vehicle during the conversation in question. The video lasts a total of five minutes.During the video, the players made comments about Senators assistant coach Martin Raymond, questioning the effectiveness of his coaching and his meetings to discuss strategy. “Do you notice that when he runs the video, if you actually do pay attention, he doesn’t ever teach you anything? He just commentates what’s happening," Wideman said.“Here’s the other thing, too. We don’t change anything, ever. So why do we even have a meeting? I haven’t paid attention in three weeks," Duchene said.In response to the video, the players seen in the video issued the following statement Monday night:"We want to apologize publicly to Marty Raymond, our teammates and coaches for our comments in Phoenix, Arizona on October 29. Our private conversation was recorded without our knowledge or consent. We're passionate about our team, and focusing on growing together. We are grateful for the support of our fans and organization. This is an important learning experience, and we will do better."In addition, Senators head coach Guy Boucher issued the following statement:"Nothing is more important to us during this rebuild than making sure our players and coaches are fully committed to our plan, our values and our system of play. We have every confidence in Marty Raymond's coaching; in the effort and determination of our team; and in the sincerity of our players' apology. This is a clear violation of our terms of service and we worked vigorously to investigate this issue. Filming or recording passengers without their consent is totally unacceptable and if reported / detected we will investigate + take action to preserve our communities privacy and integrity. MALIBU, California — The devastating Woolsey Fire destroyed homes in Malibu on Friday including one belonging to Caitlyn Jenner.By Friday afternoon, 14,000 acres burned, along with multiple homes, fire officials reported. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's Economy Department said Tuesday that U.S. consumers could pay 38% to 70% more for tomatoes after the U.S. Commerce Department announced it would re-impose anti-dumping duties on Mexican imports.The Mexican agency said the country exports about billion in tomatoes to the United States and supplies about half the tomatoes the U.S. consumes annually.It said that many small- and medium-sized Mexican tomato exporters won't be able to pay the deposits required to export. MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell believes northeast Ohio's shortage of affordable housing is having a tragic impact on the academic development of children. Blackwell told WEWS the affordable housing shortage is causing too many families to move from school district to school district and, in some cases, multiple moves are made in one school year.Blackwell said housing insecurity is playing a major factor in hindering the education of children, especially children from African-American families living in Cleveland and the inner-ring suburbs."It is an issue here in northeast Ohio, it is an issue here in the school district in Maple Heights," Blackwell said. "These children have to deal with the stress when they see their parents negotiating with the landlord, they see mom's rejection, they are part of that rejection when the application gets turned down, or the eviction notice comes.""All of these things add to the heightened sense of anxiety and stress. It's overwhelming on a daily basis."Blackwell pointed to a Harvard Medical School?study indicating that multiple moves contribute to a critical loss of learning.Blackwell said too many families simply can't afford to find good, stable housing."They make between and an hour, they have three kids, they have a car they're trying to maintain and they have to work two jobs to do that," Blackwell said.Professor Ronnie Dunn, Cleveland State University chief diversity and inclusion officer, told WEWS the toxic stress caused by multiple moves and a lack of affordable places to live are hurting young children and families more and more."In Cleveland, we average about 11,000 evictions annually," Dunn said.
