A celebrity surprise at a South Florida wedding over the weekend.Actor and comedian Adam Sandler surprised a couple on Saturday, posing for a photo on their big day.Palm Beach Photography, Inc. posted the picture on Facebook, showing Sandler with Karan and Tatiana Shah at the Pavillion Grille in Boca Raton.Scripps affiliate WPTV spoke to the Shahs on Monday who said they were taking newlywed photos after their ceremony when they saw Sandler in his car. He had been playing basketball nearby."There’s a guy reversing out with his window down, and I’m just looking at my beautiful bride, and I look and look and look, and I’m looking at her and... Adam Sandler?" said Karan Shah. "And he’s like, that's me! And I said, ohhhh that's cool!"Shah asked Sandler if he would take a photo with them, which the actor happily agreed to do. He even wished them luck on their journey of marriage."The guy is so humble and so gentle," said Shah. "If he sees us we just want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for just making this wonderful memory for us." 1100

A high school teacher was placed on administrative leave after handing students a questionnaire that asked them about sexually explicit activities and delinquent behavior, a spokesman for the Weber School District said Monday. The teacher, who was not identified, handed the survey out to 11th-grade students at Roy High School last week. The class provided instruction in human sexuality and the questionnaire was issued without parental consent, district spokesman Lane Findlay said.He said the teacher in question was a veteran within the Weber School District and didn’t believe there was any “malicious” intent with the survey.A copy of the questionnaire has since been removed from the district’s portal. However, it was posted to several websites, including scarymommy.com. The 30-question survey asked students questions from drug use to sexual activity and abortion and originated from a 1967 Ann Landers survey about sex and drugs.Heather Danks-Miller, whose daughter was handed the survey, said she found out about it when her daughter mentioned her result after taking a questionnaire. Her daughter didn’t want Danks-Miller to see how she answered the survey but read some of the questions back to her mother.“She read the questions and as she progressed, they were getting worse and worse,” Danks-Miller said. "The last 10 were really disturbing and invasive."Even worse, she said, the students were being asked to turn the survey in with their names on it."Even if you take it, grade it and hand it right back, what would happen if that paper got into the wrong hands?" she asked. "Some of the questions about the drug use, if you've ever smoked pot? Have you ever tried angel dust? I mean you're asking these people to basically incriminate themselves and turn this paper into you."If it was anonymous, sure — but even still. Maybe, here you go, take the quiz and let's discuss it but you keep the paper. I would be way more comfortable if that happened."The final scores ranked students from “a nerd — just where you should be at your age” to “hopeless and condemned.” Students in the class were asked to put their names down for a grade.“Basically parents consent to have their students be able to discuss and learn about some of those topics. Unfortunately, we had a questionnaire that was given out to students as a part of this course and that questionnaire was outside the approved curriculum,” Findlay said. “We had some parents that came up to us with some concerns about the contents of that questionnaire, so we’ve been looking into it to figure out how that ended up in the classroom and what do we need to do to remedy that situation.”Findlay said two federal acts and state laws prohibit surveys eliciting information about a student’s sexual behaviors, attitudes, sexual orientation or involvement in criminal behavior. He said district policy notes that teachers are expected to use “professional judgment and discretion in providing age-appropriate material.”Danks-Miller said she expected the school would apologize and the survey would be taken out of the curriculum. She said that didn't happen immediately and didn't learn of the teacher's administrative leave until media reports. She questioned if it had been used in the past or if a student wasn't as open with their parents as her daughter was with her, that the questionnaire would still be given to students."How many years has this paper been given out? And how many lives has that affected by telling teenagers they're hopeless and condemned or they're a nerd?" she said.In addition to placing the teacher on administrative leave, Findlay added the district and high school apologized to students and parents for the questionnaire and that it would not be used in the future. It was removed from the school’s portal to ensure it wasn’t distributed in other classrooms.“Given the contents of the survey, it is inappropriate,” he said. “We’ve looked at it — it’s unacceptable that it ended up in the classroom. … We’re taking it very seriously.” 4048

A Japanese pilot found to be more than nine times over the legal alcohol limit before a scheduled flight from London Heathrow in October has been sentenced to 10 months in prison, police said Thursday.Katsutoshi Jitsukawa, 42, an employee of flag carrier Japan Airlines, was scheduled to fly from Heathrow to Tokyo on October 28 at 6:50 p.m. local time, but failed a breath test shortly before takeoff. The test showed Jitsukawa had 189 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his body. The legal limit for pilots is 20 mg, while drivers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are allowed as much as 80 mg.Alarm was raised after a driver of a crew bus smelled alcohol and called the police, who conducted the test, according to Japanese broadcaster NHK.Jitsukawa said he had drunk two bottles of wine and a pitcher of beer the night before the flight, NHK reported. He was remanded in custody and later pleaded guilty to the charge of performing an aviation function when his ability was impaired through alcohol. Jitsukawa had been scheduled to fly a 244-seater Boeing 777 aircraft.Reacting to the sentencing, Inspector of Aviation Policing Iain Goble, condemned the "serious" offense that could have had "catastrophic" consequences."This conviction reflects he displayed not only total disregard for the safety of all the passengers and staff on his flight, but also the wider public," Goble said.Following Jitsukawa's arrest, Japan Airlines apologized for the incident and said "safety remains our utmost priority," adding it will "implement immediate actions to prevent any future occurrence." 1610

A lawsuit has been filed against the County of San Diego and the former Assistant Sheriff for sexual harassment and retaliation. The employee began working for the Sheriff’s Department in 2010 at the Vista Detention Facility, according to the lawsuit.Team 10 is not naming her because she said she is a victim of sexual harassment. The woman worked as Administration Secretary for the Detention Services Bureau at the Sheriff’s Headquarters. She alleges in her lawsuit that on at least five separate occasions, “Miller inappropriate hugged [her] and thrusted his crotch area into her so that she would feel his penis against her.”She said the first three times she was hugged in an inappropriate manner was when he was a Commander.RELATED: San Diego County Assistant Sheriff accused of 'inappropriate conduct'?The two most recent times were after he was promoted to Assistant Sheriff. The female employee claimed that Miller made “inappropriate sexual innuendo” to her, including tickling her hand. She stated in her lawsuit that she confided in two Commanders about Miller’s behavior, but did not raise a formal complaint because she feared retaliation. She applied for a new job within the department with Law Enforcement Services Bureau Administrative Secretary II “in order to avoid Defendant Miller and his continued harassment.”She was not granted the transfer. She alleged “Miller demoted her in retaliation for her rejection of his sexual advances and efforts to avoid further harassment by him.”Team 10 contacted the Sheriff’s Department late Monday. A spokesperson said Miller is no longer with the department, since he retired. She added they cannot comment on pending lawsuits. Team 10 is still waiting to hear back from a county spokesperson. The woman suing the County of San Diego and Miller also believed that “the county had received and/or was aware of several complaints from other employees about inappropriate sexual behavior of the Assistant Sheriff.”The lawsuit stated the county took no appropriate action to protect from Miller’s harassment.Team 10 previously contacted Miller when these allegations first arose in February. He told Team 10 investigator Melissa Mecija he could not comment on an ongoing investigation. He also said he “absolutely” denied allegations of inappropriate conduct. In late February, before the lawsuit was filed, a sheriff's spokesperson told Team 10: "Despite the allegations in the claim, the claimant was not demoted. The claimant was assigned to another Sheriff's Department facility, prior to raising a formal complaint, and currently receives the same pay and benefits as she did in her prior assignment." 2664
