It’s been a month since both of you went home to Paradise to be with Jesus. I spend most of my time imagining what both of you are seeing and experiencing. As my tears fall, I remind myself of what the apostle Paul said in first Thessalonians 4:13-14 NIV “Brothers and sisters we do not want you to be on uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him”. For me this is not the end but only a brief interruption. One day soon we will have a magnificent reunion and all of us will be with the Lord forever. Until then I will press on to the ultimate goal of spending eternity in Heaven. My family and I would like to thank everyone across this country who has prayed for us and sent words of encouragement our way. BOWIE, Md. -- Nestled away on a college campus sits a student lounge unlike any found at a typical college. “You're thinking someplace you can relax, you know, some place you can kind of just let your hair down for a moment,” said Christina Becton, a nursing student at Bowie State University in Maryland. On more than one occasion she’s found herself hungry and headed to the university’s new “nutritional lounge.” It’s a place where students can come and get food they can’t afford. “There is certainly a financial constraint being in college,” Becton said. Inside, there’s comfy seating, a flat screen TV and a jar for “suggestions” of food students would like to see featured on the shelves. Yet, the words “food pantry” are nowhere to be found there, for one main reason. “There is a stigma and we want the students to know that we're here to support them. We want to make sure that you know they don't feel this any sense of shame,” said Dr. Aminta Breaux, president of Bowie State, Maryland’s first Historically Black College and University.She said most of their 6,100 students are commuter students. It’s been more than two weeks since federal workers, like Lila Johnson, have been to work.Johnson says it’s been hard, but she takes it day by day. At the age of 71, Lila works part-time at the Department of Agriculture as a janitor to supplement her retirement income. However, she's been out of work since December, because of the shutdown.“My biggest concern is when are we gonna go back to work. That's number one,” she says. “Number two is how I’m going to continue making ends meet.” For now, she has to rely on friends and family to help pay her bills and groceries. Because she's a contract worker, it's likely she will not get the back pay Congress usually gives to federal workers once a shutdown is over. “When I do go back to work, I’m still gonna be behind,” she explains. “I'm gonna have to work at least two months before I can see myself climbing out of the hole.” Other federal workers wonder what they'll do when they don't get paid this week. “I just bought a house,” says furloughed worker Christine Vitel. “I'm not gonna be able to pay my mortgage, so yes, this is affecting me personally.
