SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego family wants to warn other about daytime burglars who may be posing as door-to-door salespeople.The Alvarado family just moved to a home in Allied Gardens. It is a safe neighborhood, but they noticed there are a lot of solicitors.Tuesday afternoon they were burglarized by a couple of young men wearing matching outfits.“I left the house for 25 minutes to pick up my daughters from school," Vanessa Alvarado said. "When I was coming down the street I noticed two young men walking quickly down the street, from my driveway, carrying both my guitars."Her daughters were also in the car as they drove up to their home, and burglars.“They looked up and saw me. They knew who I was,” Alvarado said. "They knew my car and they just sped down the street, made a sharp right turn."One of her daughters noticed the young men’s matching clothes.“I think they looked like salesmen. I noticed one of the had a binder in his hands with several things on top, which turned out to be my personal belongings,” Alvarado said.The home was locked at the time of the burglary.The thieves went into the backyard and broke in through a bedroom window, which was open a few inches but had a stopper device on it aimed to prevent anyone from opening the window further.Regardless, the thieves pried off the screen, and pushed the window open.The men made off with numerous items, including guitars, Kindles and jewelry. They left no fingerprints.“I went from trying to be strong for my daughters to realizing my wedding rings were gone and at that point, my heart just shattered into a million pieces,” Alvarado said.Now, the family is getting security cameras and they have dowels in the windows so they can't be opened. 1744
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was hospitalized early Thursday morning after being shot near the Children's Park in downtown San Diego, police said.San Diego police said the shooting was reported at around 1 a.m. in an area near J Street and 2nd Avenue.The victim was taken to the hospital, and 10News learned he is expected to survive from his injuries.Meanwhile, officers searched a nearby tent where the suspected shooter was last seen but could not find him.A description of the suspected shooter was not immediately provided.The shooting remains under investigation. 573
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A mountain lion that scratched a young boy at the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve in Poway last week was captured and killed, state Fish and Wildlife officials told the San Diego Union-Tribune.On June 12, park officials said a 4-year-old boy suffered scratches to his back and thigh after an encounter with the animal on the park grounds.The boy, who was on a hike with his family at the time of the incident, is expected to make a full recovery.RELATED: 4-year-old attacked by mountain lion according to Fish and WildlifeThe park was temporarily closed after the attack.The U-T, citing a Fish and Wildlife official, reported that the mountain lion in the incident was found and killed several hours after the boy was attacked.The official told the newspaper that DNA tests confirmed the animal -- a 2-year-old female weighing 70 pounds -- was the one responsible for scratching the boy. 911
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A judge declared a mistrial Monday in the retrial of an undocumented immigrant accused of being the driver in a San Ysidro hit-and-run crash which seriously injured a young boy.Constantino Banda Acosta was charged with the crash on Camino de la Plaza May 6, 2017.Investigators said Banda ran a stop sign at Dairy Mart Rd. and crashed his pickup truck into the Lake family’s Honda Accord.6-year-old Lennox Lake was in a child safety seat at the back of the car. He suffered serious head injuries.Banda left the scene but was arrested about two miles away after Border Patrol agents spotted his damaged truck parked on a street, police said.RELATED: Retrial begins for undocumented immigrant in crashDuring Banda's first trial, his passenger, Jorge Adame Ariza, also an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, testified under a grant of immunity during the defendant's two-day preliminary hearing in June that he and Banda had a number of beers that night before the accident.Adame said Banda got into a fight with another man outside a Chula Vista restaurant. Adame told them he picked up Banda but later moved into the passenger seat with Banda behind the wheel during the crash.San Diego police Officer Michael Muniz testified in the first trial that Banda's blood-alcohol content measured .151 and .152 percent -- the legal limit is .08 -- during two breathalyzer tests.Federal immigration officials said Banda has been deported from the United States 17 times.Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials told 10News if Banda is not tried again (and effectively not convicted) he may or may not be deported. ICE has requested that he be forwarded to the agency's custody upon any potential release. Banda's release will be subject to the Sheriff's Department under the California Sanctuary Law, ICE officials said. A judge will decide Friday whether a third trial will take place. 1938
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Minnesota man suspected of possessing child pornography may be in San Diego, according to the San Diego Police Department.Jamison Michael Nelson, 40, was the focus of a news release issued Monday to alert the public.San Diego Police did not release details about the charges, but information from DL-online.com indicated a man named Jamison Michael Nelson was charged with six felony counts of possessing pornographic works on a computer.The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received an alert from Google indicating that three images which may have been child pornography had been uploaded to a Gmail account, according to the report.DL-online.com reported that a search of Nelson’s residence turned up a hard drive hidden in a coffee pot.San Diego Police did not indicate why they believe Nelson may be in our area.He is white, six-feet tall, 185 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. 934
