(KGTV) — A group of demonstrators gathered in Poway to call for justice for George Floyd and against police brutality, in unison with other protests around the nation.About 75 people gathered with signs and marched along Poway Road with signs reading "Black Lives Matter" and "Stop the Hate, Build the Love."Some businesses, worried that scenes from La Mesa on Saturday night could happen in their city, boarded up doors and windows to deter any possible looting activity.A curfew has been enacted in Poway starting at 8 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Monday.In a statement, the City of Poway said:"To our Poway community: The safety of our community is our number one priority. The City of Poway, alongside the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, is aware of and monitoring this afternoon’s peaceful gathering along Poway Road.We recognize and support every individual’s first amendment right to free speech and to voice that speech in public. President Donald Trump railed against "globalists" and declared himself "a nationalist" during his rally Monday night in Houston -- prompting "USA" chants."A globalist is a person that wants the globe to do well, frankly not caring about the country so much," Trump said, prompting boos from the crowd. On Wednesday, the Commission on Presidential Debates said it was considering changes following Tuesday’s debate which contained frequent interruptions. “The Commission on Presidential Debates sponsors televised debates for the benefit of the American electorate,” the commission said on Wednesday. “Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues.
