It's looking like at least one? — if not more — American tech giants may soon find themselves worth more than trillion dollars. That's a lot of zeroes. A dozen in fact.Apple is in the lead right now. Thanks to strong demand for its new iPhones, the company now has a market value of about 0 billion. The stock only needs to go up another 10% for Apple to top trillion. But even if Apple gets to the trillion dollar mark first, it may soon have company. Apple rival Alphabet -- aka Google -- has a market cap just shy of 0 billion.Amazon and Microsoft are also nipping at the heels of Apple and Google. Both of the Seattle-based tech titans are worth more than 0 billion. And these two companies seem to have more momentum than Apple and Google, whose stocks are up about 6% this year.In fact, GBH Insights analyst Daniel Ives wrote in a report Monday that he thinks Amazon could get to a trillion dollar valuation within 12 to 18 months.Amazon's stock has soared 30% this year thanks to impressive growth in its core e-commerce business as well as gains from last year's acquisition of Whole Foods and strength in its AWS cloud division.Microsoft has also benefited from growth in its cloud business. The stock is up 11% this year and is not far from a record high.If the four biggest tech companies all hit the trillion dollar milestone relatively soon, they eventually may wind up being joined by a few other tech giants -- and a much older school conglomerate as well.Facebook, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba and Chinese gaming and social networking kingpin Tencent are all worth about half a trillion dollars. So is Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. There's also the possibility that none of these tech companies will be the first to top the magical trillion dollar level. That's because oil giant Saudi Aramco is hoping to go public sometime this year -- and it is expected to be valued somewhere between .5 trillion and trillion. 1968

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — University of Notre Dame students are now subject to mandatory coronavirus testing with stricter penalties if they leave town before getting their test results after thousands of fans stormed the football field and threw parties to celebrate a double-overtime upset over Clemson.Notre Dame President, the Rev. John Jenkins, said in an email Sunday that students must undergo coronavirus testing before leaving South Bend, Indiana, for the winter break.Jenkins says if a student is exposed or tests positive, they must quarantine on campus for two weeks. Students who don't complete the test can't register for classes.According to the Associated Press, students will face "severe sanctions" if they host a large gathering. As of Monday afternoon, the university's online COVID-19 dashboard showed six new cases reported on Sunday, giving the school 1,382 total positive cases among students and staff members. Of that total, the school estimated 221 active cases. In a resolution passed Thursday, Notre Dame's Faculty Senate formally expressed disappointment in Jenkins for failing to wear a mask at Amy Coney Barrett's nomination ceremony at the White House Rose Garden, the AP reported. Jenkins tested positive for COVID-19 in October. 1263

In hospitals, one bacterial species is becoming increasingly tolerant to the alcohols used in hand sanitizers, according to research published Wednesday in the journal Science Translational Medicine.Globally, hospitals use isopropyl or ethyl alcohol-based disinfectants, such as hand rubs, to prevent patients from becoming sick from many germs. These are the same active ingredients found in hand sanitizers available for personal use and at schools -- but that doesn't mean people should give up on them. The bacterium Enterococcus faecium resides in our guts, but if encountered in a hospital, it can cause various complicated infections affecting the abdomen, skin, urinary tract and blood. This particular bug is a member of the Enterococci family, which ranks as the fourth and fifth leading cause of sepsis, a life-threatening bloodstream infection, in North America and Europe, respectively. Many hospital-acquired infections have decreased or been kept in check by Australia's strict hygiene practices that rely on alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Yet drug-resistant E. faecium infections have increased in Australian hospitals over time, according to the study authors. This alarming pattern prompted them to investigate whether E. faecium might be developing resistance to the alcohols used in hand rubs. 1343

In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong. Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people! https://t.co/of6Lna3HMU— Donald J. ISIS claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a Shiite militia group near the Iraqi city of Hawija over the weekend, an ambush that left more than two dozen slain. It was the deadliest attack against Iraq's Shiite-led Popular Mobilization Units since the country's forces wrested Hawija from the terror group in October. At least 27 PMU fighters died in the Sunday night assault, southwest of Kirkuk, according to a statement released by the group on Monday.Dozens of ISIS militants attacked several PMU military checkpoints on a highway near the town of Hawija, security officials in Kirkuk said. The PMU, an independent military force of about 110,000 fighters, has been at the forefront of the fight against ISIS in Iraq. The group said it plans to "respond with determination to end the presence of ISIS criminal organization completely in the country."Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi ordered the punishment of the perpetrators and said the attack was carried out by "sleeper cells and terrorist pockets." His comments were made in a statement released by his office on Monday. The Baghdad government in December declared victory over the terror group, announcing the end of three years of battles across the country. But the group is still able to carry out potent strikes.ISIS claimed responsibility for a deadly attack last month in Baghdad. At least 27 people were killed January 15 in a double suicide bombing in central Baghdad, according to the Iraqi Ministry of Health. In addition to those killed, about 100 people were wounded when two bombers detonated suicide vests at a square in the Iraqi capital, officials said. 1643
