A Middle Tennessee woman visiting Gatlinburg with her family got quite a surprise when she found a bear outside their hotel.  Kim Vastola, of Watertown was in Gatlinburg for her son’s baseball tournament and was staying on the first floor of a Quality Inn.Vastola was startled when she heard people yelling about a bear. She went outside and captured video of the bear on a tree behind the hotel before he made his way around the building.  Vastola said the person at the front desk told her the "town bear" – named Robert – was lurking around but there was no need to be alarmed.Apparently, “Robert” lives in the area and roams when he comes out of hibernation. A new Trump administration border policy requiring that asylum seekers at the southern border remain in Mexico while their claims are processed has garnered the incoming Mexican government's support, the Washington Post reported Saturday, citing Mexican officials and senior members of Mexican president-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador's transition team.The plan, called "Remain in Mexico," emerged after a meeting in Houston last week that included Mexico's incoming foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and other high ranking US officials, US and Mexican officials told the Post.In a statement Thursday, Pompeo said that he, Nielsen and Ebrard had met "to discuss the migrant caravans.""We have affirmed our shared commitment to addressing the current challenge," he said. A New York appeals court has cleared the way for a publisher to distribute a tell-all book by President Donald Trump's niece over the objections of the president's brother. The New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division issued the written decision late Wednesday. The appeals court lifted a restraint that a judge put on Simon & Schuster that sought to block its distribution. But it left in place restraints against Mary Trump. She's the author of “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.” The publisher, Simon & Schuster, and a lawyer for Mary Trump praised the ruling. A new report from the Government Accountability Office released Thursday criticizes the federal government for sending out .4 billion in stimulus payments to dead people.The independent watchdog report says the Treasury and IRS sent almost 1.1 million payments totaling nearly .4 billion to deceased individuals around the country.“IRS announced that if a payment was issued to a deceased or incarcerated individual, the total amount should be returned,” read the report. “However, the IRS does not currently plan to take additional steps to notify ineligible recipients on how to return payments.”The GAO is an independent investigative agency that reports its findings to CongressThe agency found that the IRS failed to access death records maintained by the Social Security Administration before sending out the payments.“Typically, IRS uses third-party data, such as the death records maintained by the SSA to detect and prevent erroneous and fraudulent tax refund claims,” read the report. “However, Treasury and IRS did not use the death records to stop payments to deceased individuals for the first three batches of payments because of the legal interpretation under which IRS was operating.”J.
