PHOENIX (AP) — Joe Arpaio has been narrowly defeated in his bid to win back the sheriff’s post in metro Phoenix that he held for 24 years before being voted out in 2016. Arpaio on Friday lost the Republican primary to his former top aide, Jerry Sheridan. Sheridan will face the Democrat who previously defeated Arpaio, Paul Penzone, in the November general election. Arpaio also ran an unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign in 2018, not long after President Donald Trump pardoned his criminal conviction for disobeying a judge’s order. OTAY MOUNTAIN, Calif. (KGTV) — A Border Patrol agent and one man were taken to a nearby hospital after suffering heat-related illness on Otay Mountain.At about 1 p.m., Border patrol agents started a rescue involving four individuals, including one Border Patrol agent and three suspected migrants, according to U.S. Border Patrol.When agents arrived, an agent as located and taken to the hospital. One man was also found and sent to the hospital.Border agents were still searching for the two other people in the Otay Mountain Wilderness area, according to Border Patrol. 579

Police in Ohio are looking for thieves who made away with massive amounts of candy at a Garfield Heights convenience store.According to detectives, a Cleveland-area Speedway convenience store has been robbed of tens of thousands of dollars in sweets.Garfield Heights Police said they have been working this case since June.“We're getting calls after the fact because when they're doing their inventory, then they're discovering the shortage,” said Detective Phillip Herron.The surveillance video shows the robber walking in, followed by several other people.“This guy’s got a bag, he's shoving all kinds of candy and there's a lot of people in that store, and not one person has called us, alerted us,” said Herron.The manage of the Speedway declined to comment on the robberies. Herron said the manager has also declined to speak to police.“As far as getting cooperation from employees in the store, we're not getting a lot of cooperation,” he said.So where is all this candy going? Herron said the robbers are most likely not eating it all, but reselling it.“Either take that candy and resell it to a store,” he said. “We got information from other cities that, some of these inner-city stores are buying the stolen candy for pennies on the dollar and they'll be able to resell it and make a bigger profit.”Back in July of 2016, thieves stole hundreds of dollars worth of candy at the Speedway in nearby Berea. Police in Middleburg Heights, another nearby Cleveland suburb, also confirmed a similar robbery earlier this year.The detective said the black market is becoming a bigger business on the streets. He said all the cases could possibly be linked.So far, Middleburg Heights said no arrests have been made in their case. Berea Police have not responded to requests for updates.  1854

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- An unmasked man pulled a gun on a masked shopper and threatened to kill him during an apparent confrontation over face coverings at a Florida Walmart, deputies said.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, the store's security video shows Vincent Scavetta pushing an older man in a wheelchair through the Royal Palm Beach store on July 12.In the video, a man with his young daughter approach Scavetta and exchange words. Witnesses said the man made a comment about Scavetta not wearing a mask.The video shows Scavetta giving the shopper the middle finger before pulling a handgun from his waistband, deputies said."I'll kill you," Scavetta said, according to an arrest report.Scavetta faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper exhibition of a firearm. 826

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway reopened to visitors Monday after storm damage that closed the popular attraction for almost two months. The Valentine’s Day storm severed the power feed to the mountain and washed out a road, according to tram officials. Crews spent weeks making necessary repairs and cleaning up damage. The closure kept 100,000 visitors away, tram officials estimate. The storm led to almost million in repair costs and lost revenues. “It’s been a long six weeks for everyone, but today we are delighted to finally welcome back Tram visitors. On behalf of the entire Tramway staff, we are thrilled to be back open for business and truly appreciate the community’s support throughout our closure,” said Tramway General Manager Nancy Nichols. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which is the world’s largest rotating tram car, opened in 1963. Its 80-passenger cars take travelers from the desert floor to the Mountain Station at an elevation of 8,516 feet in 10 minutes. Visitors can enjoy two restaurants, a natural history museum, documentary theaters, and hiking trails at the top. The tram opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are .95 for adults and .95 for children ages 3 to 10. Ticket sales start at the station half an hour before opening. Visitors can also buy tickets online starting April 8. 1404
