(KGTV) — An elderly driver led Los Angeles-area officers on a slow-speed pursuit on the 101 Freeway Wednesday, before being taken into custody.The driver began the pursuit with California Highway Patrol officers just after 1 p.m. in the San Gabriel Valley area, according ABC-affiliate KABC. CHP officers tried to pull the driver's SUV over for a carpool violation but the vehicle continued down the freeway, KABC reported.Officers followed the driver at normal highway speeds through Glendale and into the San Fernando Valley, before officers pulled in front of the driver's SUV and slowed the vehicle down.As officers approached the vehicle, the driver was cooperative and stepped out of the vehicle without incident.The driver, who appeared to be an elderly man, seemed disoriented as officers took him into custody, KABC reported. 842
(KGTV) — Avocado lovers at two southern California colleges are in for a treat — if they're willing to take on the "responsibility."Researchers at Loma Linda University and the University of California, Los Angeles are looking for candidates to eat avocados in large and in small quantities — in the name of science, of course.Participants of HAT, the Habitual diet and Avocado Trial, will be paid 0 for their participation in the six-month trial. But the catch is candidates will be randomly assigned whether they stuff their diet with avocados or just eat two per month.RELATED: San Diego County's record heat may prove devastating to avocado cropThe test group will be given 16 avocados every two weeks and be required to eat one a day throughout the study. (KGTV) -- California is among the least-patriotic states in the nation, according to a new report from WalletHub. The Golden State took the 48th spot on the list of most-patriotic states. According to the report, California’s military engagement rank fell to the 30th spot on the list while the state ranked 48th for civic engagement. RELATED: Fourth of July celebrations in San DiegoCalifornia also has one of the lowest volunteer rates in the nation, placing 46th. According to WalletHub, red states are also more patriotic than blue states. (KGTV) - A Pennsylvania groom is accused of sexually assaulting one of his wife’s bridesmaids days before his wedding, which occurred as scheduled. Daniel Carney, 28, is charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of an unconscious person and indecent assault at the Smithfield resort Aug. 30. Police said the assault reportedly happened after Carney and the bridesmaid were drinking alcohol. The bridesmaid told officers she blacked out, and when she regained consciousness her clothes were removed and Carney was fondling her. Surveillance video shows Carney pulling the woman into the men’s locker room, police said. According to police, the assault stopped when the bride caught him, but the wedding went on as planned Sept. 1. Court documents show investigators listened in on a call between Carney and his accuser, KABC reported.
