SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police arrested two people following a pursuit through San Carlos Friday night.Officers say they responded to reports of gunshots near the San Carlos Recreation Center around 9:53 p.m. They said they tried to pull over a suspicious vehicle, but it took off. A five-minute pursuit took place before the suspect’s car crashed near the Jackson and Golfcrest Drives.The suspects rushed out of the vehicle, but one was caught after surrendering at a nearby taco shop.  The other one ran into a nearby housing complex. That suspect surrendered after about a three-minute standoff.Police say they found guns in the car. The suspect's names have not yet been released.  713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New data by an environmental foundation shows Mission Valley is seeing a surge in homeless.A study by the San Diego River Park Foundation says the number of homeless living along the river has nearly doubled since last October.In October of 2016, volunteers counted 56 homeless encampments along the San Diego River and in October of this year, they tallied 101."The numbers really were surprising," said SDRPF President Rob Hutsel, "an 80% increase is really a lot."San Diego Police Department made 270 arrests in homeless-related crimes in September. Hutsel says the new wave of homeless is likely from the city's crackdowns.The SDRPF has compiled data on the homeless encampments' locations and even the trash they produce. "93.7% of the trash (here) is sourced to homelessness," said Hutsel pointing to the map on his phone.In Orange County, law enforcement has established curfews on certain banks along of the Santa Ana River where they are experiencing a similar issue with transients.Councilman Scott Sherman's office says the city performs sweeps of the riverbed and curfews are a possibility once the area becomes more developed. 1166

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police have identified a man who was fatally shot in the Midway District this week, prompting a standoff with the suspect of the murder in North Park.San Diego Police received a report of the shooting just before 11 a.m. Sunday in the rear parking lot of the 24 Hour Fitness at 3675 Midway Drive. Police arrived to find 27-year-old Alexander Mazin of San Diego suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.Despite medial aid at the scene, Mazin died at the scene.RELATED: Fatal shooting leads to standoff between police, suspect in North ParkFollowing the shooting, police were led to the intersection of 30th Street and Upas St where an hours-long standoff began.Once SWAT teams entered the apartment, however, they did not find the suspect — identified as 41-year-old Ernesto Castallenos Martinez. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More people left California than those who moved in last year, according to recent Census data.The data shows that about 691,000 people left California for other pastures around the U.S., while only about 501,000 people moved into the Golden State in 2018.So where did everyone go? The data says most former Californians end up in Texas (86,164), Arizona (68,516), Washington (55,467), or Nevada (50,707).RELATED: San Diego homeowners creating rentals by converting garages into apartmentsPerhaps it's not all that surprising. Year-over-year, Texas added more jobs than any other state. The state added 283,000 jobs and unemployment fell to 3.7 percent in April, according to The Dallas Morning News. California, with 10 million more people than Texas, added 271,600 jobs year-over-year.With Arizona, a recent campaign to court Californians may have attracted new residents. The Greater Phoenix Economic Council's "#CAStruggles" campaign has tried attracting Californians to the desert with the promise of a lower housing cost, taxes, and other financial benefits. A recent UC Berkeley poll found that at least half of California's voters have given either serious (24%) or some (28%) thought to moving.
