Apparently, that state of mind won't help Californians enjoy the best quality of life in the U.S.Despite our pristine beaches, famous cities, and awesome nickname (The Golden State really is a great one), Californians reportedly enjoy one of the lowest qualities of life, according to U.S. News and World Report's annual "Best States" rankings.The study ranks states on a variety of metrics, including quality of life, opportunities for residents, education, healthcare, economy, infrastructure, crime and corrections, and fiscal stability.RELATED: AAA's top rated restaurants, hotels in San Diego CountyOk, it's starting to make a little sense. Metrics are weighted based on what more than 30,000 participants indicated as the most important aspects of livelihood. Healthcare and education were the heaviest scores, followed by economy, opportunity, and infrastructure.Overall, the Golden State came in at 32, though scored last in quality of life and near last in opportunity and fiscal stability."In addition to a healthy environment, a person's quality of life is largely a result of their interactions with those around them," U.S. News wrote. The state ranked 44 for natural environment and 47 for social environment.Natural environment measured drinking water quality, pollution and industrial toxins, and air quality. While drinking water quality was ranked 13, pollution health risks and urban air quality were among the worst states.Social environment looked at community engagement, social support, and voter participation. (KGTV) -- San Diego Gas and Electric has shut off power to more than 1,400 customers due to dry, windy conditions.According to the company, a total of 1,466 residents were affected in the East County communities of Boulevard, Campo, and Jacumba.SDG&E says winds have since subsided and crews have started inspections on equipment in an effort to restore power.“We currently expect that power will be restored today as long it is safe to do so,” the company said.SDG&E says a community resource center will be opened by 5 p.m. should power remain off.The center is located at 39919 Ribbonwood Road in Boulevard. 626

(KGTV) — The addition of a "notorious" galactic cantina will bring not only smugglers and bounty hunters to Disneyland in 2019, but also alcohol sales for the first time.Disneyland's "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" will be home to Oga's Cantina, an "otherworldy" stop for music and exotic concoctions, park officials announced Thursday.Among the cantina's limited menu options will be wine, beer, and both non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails, according to Disney officials. (KGTV) - People who live and work around Carmel Mountain are having their patience tested by a road work project.San Diego Public Works began laying new asphalt on a two-mile stretch of Rancho Carmel Drive on Monday this week and so far it’s been three days of congestion for those who have to drive through the area.“This is insane,” said one driver who had been waiting for over an hour on connecting to go a few blocks.Several people told 10News they had been in traffic for up to two hours in a quarter-mile span because of the road work.In a statement SDPW wrote:In response to the increase in traffic, we have sent one of our traffic engineers to the site to assess how the traffic control can be improved to reduce the traffic impacts of the work. We want to apologize to all those that were impacted by the traffic. We expect that this particular stretch of work should be completed today, and the remainder of the paving work on Rancho Carmel Dr. should be done within a week or two, with final striping to follow.SDPW says crews will work 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and they plan to have the Rancho Carmel Dr. project done by April 20. 1183
