BRUSSELS, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Wednesday that China and Belgium should enhance communication and cooperation in a variety of areas to deepen their bilateral relations.Based on the principle of equality and mutual benefit, China wishes to encourage mutual investment and broaden cooperation with Belgium in high-end manufacturing, biological technology, new material and agricultural products processing, Wen told Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme during a meeting.China attaches great importance to its friendly cooperative relations with Belgium, Wen said.Seizing the opportunity of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2011, China wishes to make a joint effort with Belgium to inject new energy into their bilateral ties by enhancing all-level exchanges and make plans for cooperation, the premier said.Despite the global financial crisis, trade between China and Belgium has witnessed growing momentum with rocketing Belgian exports to China, Wen said.The two countries have made progress in cooperating on finance, nuclear energy, and communications, he said.Wen said both countries should oppose trade protectionism, counter global challenges and strengthen coordination and cooperation in the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich expressed here Thursday the willingness to lift the friendly and cooperative China-Ukraine relationship to a new level.They also promised to strive to increase two-way trade to 10 billion U.S. dollars by 2012. XIAMEN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign trade surplus was approximately 84 billion U.S. dollars from Jan. to July, down 20 percent year on year, and the year 2010 is expected to see a small trade surplus, said Commerce Minister Chen Deming on Tuesday.Chen made the projection at the ongoing World Investment Forum that runs from Sept. 7 to 9 in southeast China's coastal city of Xiamen.China has seen a trade surplus in recent years, but with a decreasing margin, and the trade surplus takes up a very small proportion of the GDP, noted Chen."China's foreign trade policy aims to stabilize exports and increase imports, which can boost China's economy and also bring positive impacts to neighboring countries," said Chen.Customs statistics show that China's import and export value in the first seven months reached 1,617 billion U.S. dollars, with exports worth 850.5 billion U.S. dollars, up 35.6 percent, and imports at 766.6 billion U.S. dollars, up by 47.2 percent.China's trade surplus in 2009 was more than 190 billion U.S. dollars, down 34.4 percent from the 290 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.The World Investment Forum is the global meeting on investment and development issues organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China welcomed the World Trade Organization's (WTO) ruling that United States imposition of anti-dumping and countervailing duties on four types of Chinese imports was inconsistent with WTO regulations, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Saturday.The four categories of Chinese imports include standard steel pipe, rectangular steel pipe, laminated woven sacks, and off-road tires, according to an online statement posted on the MOC's website.In a report released Friday, the WTO's dispute settlement body found that the U.S. department of Commerce had acted inconsistently with WTO rules on five elements of the case, which China filed to the WTO in 2008.The U.S. should conduct trade remedy investigations strictly in accordance with the WTO regulations, an unnamed official from the MOC's Department of Treaty and Law said in the statement.However, China was also concerned over some views and rulings made by the WTO expert panel, and would handle issues such as complaints according to WTO disputes settlement procedures, said the official.
