SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Thursday that several more shoreline park areas and piers and boardwalks would be reopened this week amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Mayor Faulconer says the following will be reopened in June and July:June 8: East and West Mission Bay Parks will be open for park and water use, including parking lots at 100% capacity.June 8: Fiesta Island opens to pedestrians, dogs, and cyclists only.June 9: All piers and boardwalks within city limits reopen.June 12: Balboa Park Central Mesa reopens and all Balboa Park parking lots open at 100% capacity.July 6: Fiesta Island opens to vehicles.Gatherings are still prohibited and social distancing is still required at beaches and parks. Mayor Faulconer said active sports at the beach are still banned as well."We're continuing to make meaningful progress as we continue to reopen across San Diego," Faulconer said.This week, county beaches allowed visitors to sit, sunbathe, and relax on the sand, in addition to passive activities like walking and running.Ocean activities, like swimming, surfing, kayaking, and paddle-boarding continue to be allowed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego FBI agents are asking the public for help find a suspect who robbed a bank in the College Area Wednesday.The man, described as a black man in his late 30s to early 40s and standing about 6-feet tall, entered a Union Bank branch in the 6000 block of El Cajon Blvd. at about 11 a.m. Investigators say the man handed a teller a demand note and received an undisclosed amount of cash. According to San Diego Gas and Electric, nearly 24,000 people, mainly in East County, are at risk of having their power shut off. Residents in Alpine say they’re gearing up for possible outages. Employees at the Alpine Beer Company told 10News when the power goes down, their protocol is to close the bar, but keep their stock nice and cool. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police Monday identified a shooting victim found in Sherman Heights following a crash.According to police, 25-year-old Jose Alberto Ortiz died after officers found him with gunshot wounds on October 22 near 27th Street and K Street.Police responded to the area after receiving reports of a crash. After responding, police say they found a dark sedan that collided with a parked vehicle.“Upon contacting the driver, they saw that he had sustained trauma that was not consistent with a traffic collision and suspected the male had been shot,” police said.The man was taken to the hospital where he later died. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are searching for a suspect who they say tried to sexually assault a woman before stealing her car.According to police, the incident happened on the 1700 block of India Street at 4:33 a.m. Sunday.Police say the man walked into Cafe Italia while the victim was cleaning. The man then pushed the woman into a back room where he tried to sexually assault her while wielding a Bowie knife.The woman was able to fight the suspect off before he grabbed her car keys and drove out of the area in the tan, 1998 GMC Jimmy with California license plate 7VOY594.The man is described as a 25 to 30-year-old white male with a medium complexion who is five feet, five inches tall with a thin build, has dark, curly hair and is unshaven.The suspect was last seen wearing a white baseball cap with black stripes and stars resembling an American flag, a black short-sleeved t-shirt and tan shorts with dark, high-top tennis shoes.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police’s Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 1060
