SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (CNS) -- A brush fire that may have been sparked by illegal fireworks on Sunday afternoon has scorched about 1,200 acres near the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Santa Clarita and is about 30% contained Monday morning, authorities said.About 400 firefighters and three helicopters remained on duty overnight working to put out flames and clear lines of vegetation to contain them, Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Sky Cornell said.As of 9 a.m., the fire was listed at 1,300 acres and 30% containment. No injuries were reported and no homes were damaged, authorities said, but an assessment released after daybreak indicated that nearly 4,800 structures were threatened.At one point on Sunday, flames threatened nine homes in rural Agua Dulce Canyon which were ordered evacuated, and 200-250 people were advised to prepare to leave their homes if conditions worsened, according to county Fire Chief Deputy David Richardson.Evacuees were told to take small animals and report to the Victory Outreach parking lot at 37419 25th Street East in Palmdale but to stay in their cars due to COVID-19.The fast-moving Soledad Fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, pushed by winds of 20-30 mph, Richardson said.The flames skirted the 14 Freeway, burning near Soledad Canyon and Agua Dulce Canyon Roads and jumped over the freeway in a couple of places only to have those spots put out quickly by firefighters, he said.Initially, the northbound 14 was closed at Agua Dulce Canyon and southbound lanes were shut down at Soledad Canyon, the California Highway Patrol reported. "I mean, it's still gotta be on the bus."That was the first time Rogers was separated from his bags and the thousands of dollars worth of medicine that he needed for an extended trip. When Rogers finally got to Pensacola a day later, the bags were nowhere to be found."So I had to wind up buying a plane ticket to get back to Ohio so I could get my doctors to get me some more meds," said Rogers.Rogers' bus and plane tickets bringing him to Pensacola, Florida and back to Ohio.A month later, back in Sandusky, Rogers still doesn't have his bags even after constant calls from Roger's roommate, Karin Lucas."A fiasco," said Lucas, describing when she calls Greyhound. "I get transferred constantly. Representatives pass the buck."Rogers and Lucas say when they reach out to Greyhound for help, they're surprised when a live person is on the other end of the line.Lucas says they could get 0 for each of the three lost bags through the Greyhound claim process. But the emergency plane ticket was nearly 0 itself. (KGTV) — Santee voters this November will weigh in on two measures that deal with limits on serving as a City Council member or as Mayor.Measure Q and R each intend to address term limits on City Council and Mayoral positions in the city of Santee, however, they each take a different approach to limit how long someone can serve.The text of Measure Q reads as follows:City of Santee - Measure Q: "Shall the measure amending the Santee Municipal Code to require that no person shall serve as an 'Elected Official,' defined to include the offices of Mayor and Member of the City Council, for more than twelve years, or three terms, whichever is less, with any portion of term, whether by election or appointment, counting as a full term, be adopted?"Measure Q would not allow anyone to serve as either Mayor or a City Council member, or any combination of those positions, for more than 12 years, or three four-year terms, with any portion of a term counting as a full term.The competing measure, Measure R, reads as follows:City of Santee - Measure R: "Shall an ordinance amending the Santee Municipal Code to establish a three-term lifetime limit on City Council service and a separate two-term lifetime limit on Mayoral service, be adopted?"In other words, no one can serve as Mayor for more than two, four-year terms and, separately and in addition, as a City Council member for three, four-year terms, regardless of the district a person represented.
