GABORONE, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here on Monday that China is satisfied with its relations with Botswana.In a meeting with Botswana's President Ian Khama, Xi said the bilateral ties have developed steadily and fruitfully and that both sides have kept close coordination in the international arena.Xi, who arrived in Gaborone on Saturday for an official visit, noted that bilateral economic cooperation has maintained a good momentum in recent years, and Botswana has become one of China's vital partners in Africa."The Chinese side is satisfied with the development of bilateral ties," Xi was quoted as saying by a press release issued by the Chinese delegation.He said China values its ties with Botswana, noting that China will continue to enhance political trust, expand economic cooperation and strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchange with Botswana."I believe the China-Botswana friendly cooperation is sure to have a promising future," he said.The Chinese vice president also praised Botswana for its active role in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, calling for joint efforts to push forward the smooth development of the forum.Botswana is the final leg of Xi's four-nation trip to Asia and Africa. SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- China is willing to deepen economic and trade cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties with the United States in a "constructive manner", a senior official from China's Ministry of Commerce said here Thursday.At a press conference held Thursday evening, Yu Jianhua, director general of the International Trade and Economic Affairs Department of Ministry of Commerce, said China does not want to get into confrontation with the United States in trade and exchange rate issues, though its second round of quantitative easing will have great impact on China and other emerging economies."On the contrary, we are willing to deepen economic and trade cooperation with the United States in a constructive manner," said Yu, who is also a member of the Chinese delegation to the G20 Seoul Summit which opened Thursday evening.He said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao also proposed to deepen the bilateral economic and trade cooperation during a meeting with U.S. President Barak Obama in New York last September."Therefore, much common ground can be found in the China-U.S. cooperation. BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's central government pledged on Friday to support the northeastern region by boosting its development of modern agriculture.A guideline, mapped out by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture, was publicized by the General Office of the State Council, or cabinet, on the central government' s official website www.gov.cn.The guideline expects the region to harvest more than 100 million tonnes of grain annually by 2015.Northeastern China should catch up with developed countries in terms of land output rates and labor production rates, according to the guideline.The northeastern region in the guideline refers to Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang Provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Friday ordered local governments to begin a campaign to inspect projects under construction to eliminate safety risks in the wake of recent fire accidents.Local authorities should work on "effective prevention of accidents" and improve safety, especially in winter when fire and gas poisoning accidents tend to be more frequent, the ministry said in a statement on its website.Special monitoring should be undertaken of reconstruction work and of projects involving the expansion of existing buildings, it said, urging a "serious" crackdown on illegal practices during building operations, according to the statement.The notice followed the call from the State Council on Wednesday demanding tougher fire prevention measures, after a blaze Monday gutted a high-rise apartment building in Shanghai, killing at least 58 people, and another fire engulfed a 99-year-old building at Tsinghua University in Beijing on Nov. 13.
