LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The prestigious University of California system has reached a proposed million settlement with seven women who accused a former gynecologist of sexual abuse.As part of the class-action lawsuit, more than 6,600 patients of Dr. James Heaps could receive part of the settlement -- even if they have not formally accused the former University of California, Los Angeles, gynecologist of abuse.A federal judge must approve the proposed agreement filed Monday. LOCKPORT, N.Y.  — A woman went into labor while watching the original version of the horror movie "The Purge" at the Transit Drive-In Theater in Lockport, New York. The woman's car would not start because the battery had gone dead, making things even more stressful."It was code red," said owner Rick Cohen with a laugh, who admits that he was worried the baby was going to be born on the spot. In addition, the movie was still playing, making a rescue in the dark more challenging.The Transit Drive-in was built in 1952 and has been operated by Cohen's family since 1957. During the rescue, Cohen was thinking "hot towels, hot water and hopefully not too big of a mess." The drive-in owner has has no children or experience in the delivery room.Cohen was able to use a portable battery pack and flashlight to start the car and escort the woman and her very nervous husband safely to the exit.Social media has also taken a liking to this story with numerous people posting "Congratulations" and "Close call! Could have been the first baby born at the Transit Drive-In.""I guess the baby was in a hurry to come see a movie," said Cohen with a chuckle, who is hoping to meet the parents again.  "I wish them the best but would really like to know how they made out."In the rush to get the couple out of the drive-in and on the way to the hospital, Cohen said he never thought to find out who the parents were and what hospital they were going to.While he has encountered many things in his years as a drive-in movie operator, Cohen said he has never had a situation where a woman began to give birth — especially during a horror movie. 1701

LONDON (AP) — Cinema chain Cineworld says it is considering closing all its movie theaters in Britain and the United States, after the postponement of the new James Bond film left a big hole in schedules. Cineworld Group PLC owns 543 Regal cinemas in the U.S. and 128 Cineworld venues in the U.K. and Ireland. It said Sunday it was "considering the temporary closure of our U.K. and U.S. cinemas, but a final decision has not yet been reached." The statement came after the Sunday Times reported that Cineworld's U.K. theaters will shut in the coming weeks. LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Rapper Nipsey Hussle has died after a shooting near a clothing store he was associated with in Los Angeles, according to a high-ranking law enforcement official with the Los Angeles Police Department.Two other people were injured in the shooting around 3:20 p.m., according to the department.The incident occurred near a clothing store around the area of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.All three victims were transported to a hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead, according to police. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O'Farrell and the city's Bureau of Sanitation will remind all restaurant managers that starting Tuesday they will be required to withhold plastic straws unless a customer requests them. ``The new city law picks up where the state law stops,'' O'Farrell said in April. ``As a coastal city and state, we owe it to our environment to do everything in our power to ensure we reduce single-use plastic waste.'' The first phase of O'Farrell's ``Straws on Request'' initiative took effect this year on Earth Day, which applied to businesses with more than 26 employees. The new law takes aim at reducing single-use plastic waste from littering beaches and waterways, O'Farrell said, and it applies to restaurants of all sizes. O'Farrell plans to speak this morning at a news conference with various city officials and local restaurant owners. Both the state and county recently adopted a single-use plastic straw policy, but O'Farrell said Los Angeles' law is more restrictive. In drive-thru restaurants, the customer will be notified to ask for a straw if one is needed. O'Farrell cited a report from the nonprofit Lonely Whale's campaign called Strawless Ocean, which stated Americans throw away 500 million plastic straws each day.
