SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Rancho Bernardo family's home has become a must-see experience for their neighbors. Inspired by Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, the Loveless family has created a walk-through Halloween event that has grown bigger and bigger each year. She has recreated many of the iconic characters from the popular ride, as well as adding other spooks and haunts.For creator Katherine Loveless, it brings her back to her childhood. "I grew up on a city street that had a lot of haunted houses like this, so I grew up with it," Loveless said.Loveless and her husband, Bernard, began work on this year's Loveless Manor in August. They have created panels, which serve as moveable walls to create a maze-like path that runs through their yard. The family put a lot of thought into how to adjust their plans for the pandemic.“Last year we did kind of a smaller, tight trail that went in and out the same gateway," Bernard said. "We knew that wasn’t an option and we needed to have the whole trail outside and have more space between groups.”Loveless Manor is only open Halloween night. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A non-profit in Logan Heights is asking for the neighborhood's help clean up a community space used by families and children. The Logan Heights Community Development Corporation owns the Gilliam Family Community Space. In March, they were forced to shut it down indefinitely because vandals were using the space overnight.  The area is covered in graffiti and littered with trash. The vandals were using the tree house overnight and damaging the fruits and vegetables in the community garden.  Now, the non-profit wants volunteers to help revamp the area. They plan on knocking the tree house down and eliminating the garden to deter the people coming in overnight. A large community cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at 2835 Imperial Avenue at 9 a.m. The non-profit relies solely on donations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Navy sailor appeared in court Tuesday after authorities say he stole 20 hand grenades from a San Diego-based guided missile destroyer.Authorities say Gunner’s Mate Second Class Aaron Booker was taken into custody in Illinois.According to court documents, personnel assigned to the USS Pinckney discovered that 20 grenades disappeared from their storage crates in 2017.In April 2017, an off-duty law enforcement officer noticed a black backpack leaning against a guardrail on the side of the road along Interstate 15 in northwest Arizona.The bag was standard military issue with “GM2 BOOKER” handwritten on a tag inside the bag. The bag contained 18 of the grenades that were missing from the USS Pinckney.According to authorities, law enforcement is still searching for the two missing grenades.The complaint states that Booker acknowledged to investigators that he drove the same route before reporting to his duty station in March.“A backpack full of grenades on the side of the road is obviously extremely dangerous and could have had resulted in injuries or death,” said U.S. Attorney Adam L. Braverman said. “The theft of explosives is a very serious offense, particularly if it is carried out by an insider with access to military weapons and secrets.”Booker will appear for a detention hearing before being transferred to San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego family just got bigger thanks to results from a recently taken DNA test.Sita Brooke and her brother, Odie, met their sister Eva Knight for the first time Friday. Brooke's father, Jim, was also on hand to meet his daughter.Brooke told 10News she purchased a DNA kit from Ancestry.com for her parents last Christmas to learn more about her family's origins. Knight, from Arizona, had also taken a DNA test recently.A parental match popped up for both of them.Brooke's dad served for 33 years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Trinidad at one point, where he met Knight's mother. And the sister's have even more in common. Knight is also originally from San Diego before moving to Arizona.The family members are now enjoying their newly discovered connections. 800
