SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Carlsbad-based Callaway Golf Co. announced Wednesday it has agreed to buy driving-range chain Topgolf Entertainment Group in an all-stock transaction valued at billion.The merger combines Callaway, a global golf equipment company, with Topgolf, which made its name as a party-golf attraction for players at all skill levels. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An elderly disabled woman was assaulted and seriously injured in downtown San Diego, police said Saturday.The victim, a 73-year-old homeless woman who uses a walker, was attacked near the corner of Fourth Avenue and B Street at 10:10 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Matt Dobbs of the San Diego Police Department's homicide unit.She was taken to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery, the lieutenant said. Because of the serious nature of the woman's injuries, investigators from the SDPD's homicide unit were called to the scene."Detectives are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses," Dobbs said. "A man was seen in an altercation with the victim. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday were working to determine what led to the death of an inmate at the San Diego Central Jail. Deputies conducting a security check at the Front Street detention center found 26-year-old Ivan Ortiz of San Ysidro unconscious in his cell about 3:45 p.m. Monday, according to sheriff's officials. ``Deputies and medical staff performed lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived and transported Ortiz to the hospital,'' Lt. Michael Blevins said. Physicians pronounced Ortiz dead about 4 1/2 hours later. Ortiz had been arrested by San Diego police last June on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism. A criminal complaint alleges that he attacked two people last June 6 with a skateboard, and attempted to kill one of the victims, though specific details on the alleged attack were unavailable. He also faced two counts of assault with a deadly weapon -- a skateboard -- as well as three counts of felony vandalism regarding alleged incidents on May 10 and June 9, and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. At the time of his death, he was being housed alone in a psychiatric observation cell. The county Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Ortiz's death. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public to keep an eye out for a missing Lemon Grove teenager with a history of running away from home.The last known sighting of Alonna Wintland, 15, was on July 31, when she left her home in the 8000 block of Lemon Grove Way in a car driven by an unidentified man, according to sheriff's officials.At the time, Alonna, who did not take her cellphone or debit card with her when she disappeared, was wearing beige shorts, a white shirt and sandals. Her whereabout since have been unknown.Alonna is white, 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 235 pounds. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man accused of ambushing a janitorial worker at a Little Italy coffee shop and trying to sexually assault her pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a half-dozen felony charges, including kidnapping with the intent to commit a sex offense.Christopher Merron, 28, was ordered held on million bail. He faces life in prison if convicted, said Deputy District Attorney Nicole Roth.Merron allegedly attacked the woman as she was cleaning the coffee shop in the 1700 block of India Street about 4:30 a.m. last Sunday, pushing her into a back room, taking her car keys and threatening her with a knife.Following a struggle, the victim, whose name was withheld, was able to break free and run out of the building, said San Diego police Lt.
