SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities have identified the woman who died after being hit by an armored vehicle in La Jolla Tuesday night. The medical examiner reported that Mikaela Jones was killed after walking out in front of the armored vehicle on the 8600 block of Villa La Jolla Drive around 5 p.m. Police confirmed Tuesday night that the incident had happened on the young woman's 22nd birthday. At this time, the moments leading up to Jones' death are unclear.  505

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As we continue to work through the pandemic, a couple of Carmel Valley kids are working to spread “some good news” for San Diegans. Brothers Zach and Asher Swazey are putting together their own newscasts.Its called “SGN San Diego.” The newscast is filled with good news.“You want to have something that will affect people in a positive way,” says 13-year-old Zach.The brothers are now working on episode two. They say it was a lot of work putting everything together.“It took us 2-3 weeks,” says ten-year-old Asher. “We went through multiple stages of editing. It took a little of time to make the script and film.”The boys say they were inspired to start SGN San Diego after watching actor and filmmaker John Krasinski on Youtube.The boys say their video is getting more views, but their headline is to make people feel good.“When you’re making a YouTube channel, it’s not about how many likes you get or how many subscribers, it’s how it affects people.”The brothers say their parents are also a big help. San Diego (KGTV) -- County leaders are taking steps to provide more access to coronavirus testing to some of the local communities hit hardest by the pandemic.The new outreach program will begin with a free new testing site at the Mexican Consulate at 1549 India St. starting at 8 a.m. Monday and will run until 3:30 p.m.No appointments are needed.The County of San Diego has been trying to expand testing and outreach in the Latino community, which has been the hardest hit by the coronavirus.Of the more than 42,000 confirmed cases in the county, Latinos account for 63% of that total.County and community leaders say the Consulate’s opening as a testing location will provide an accessible, safe way for San Diego’s Mexican and Latino communities to receive COVID-19 testing.The additional testing locations coming online in the coming weeks will function on a 14-day rotation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed a car parked on the side of the freeway in Logan Heights early Monday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, The incident happened at about 3 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 at Oceanview Blvd.When fire crews arrived, the car was fully engulfed. Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly.When the smoke cleared, deputies found a rag in the gas tank and says it appeared the car had been set on fire intentionally.No injuries were reported.Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. 613
