SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Clairemont neighborhood woke up Thursday to a police raid, one week after surveillance video captured a gun battle in the exact same area. A damaged front door was left behind after a police action early in the morning. Just before 7 a.m., a surveillance camera captured officers arriving on Batista Street. They line up in front of a two-story home, before executing a search warrant there."So unusual. Don't remember anything like this in recent memory," said Gail Martin, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years. For neighbors, the bizarre events began last Friday. Doorbell video shows a speeding black truck turning onto a street past a sedan, which then begins to move. In the next video, the truck is stopped on the street. Not far away, someone emerges from the passenger side of the car and starts firing a handgun. After about six shots are exchanged. The car then backs up and peels out. Another surveillance camera shows the truck racing out of the area.Evidence markers revealed a scene resembling the Wild West. Did other clues lead to the nearby home? Neighbors tell 10news a lot of young people are seen coming in and out at all hours."A lot of partying, a lot of drinking. Yelling and fighting ... not very common for this neighborhood," said Eric Jacobs. On this morning, the activity was narcotics officers swarming the home. The search of the house lasted more than an hour-and-a-half. When it wrapped up, a young man was handcuffed and taken into custody. A SDPD spokesperon confirmed a search warrant was completed by narcotics officers but said detectives have yet to make a link to the shooting. 1665

SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- UC San Diego denounced an Instagram account claiming an affiliation with the university that posted "hateful, racist content" on its page, while a similar investigation was underway at the University of San Diego.On Sunday night, UCSD officials were made aware of the page, which featured several racist posts and represented a connection with the university."We firmly denounce what was shared on this account," the school wrote in a Monday afternoon Twitter statement, "and condemn all forms of racism and hate."UCSD said similar posts were seen on another account, which apparently claimed affiliations with a different university.RELATED: USD investigating white supremacist Instagram accounts that claim ties to schoolThough the other university was not identified in UCSD's statement, the University of San Diego posted a statement last weekend indicating the school was aware "that abhorrent and hateful Instagram accounts, claiming ties to USD, have been used to post white supremacy propaganda."In a statement, USD said the content of the accounts "tears at the very fabric of who we are as a Catholic university and the values we hold dear."The school says it has initiated an investigation into the posts and asked Instagram to take the pages down, along with any other affiliated accounts.USD officials said anyone with information regarding the accounts' creator should contact Dr. Donald Goodwin at deanofstudents@sandiego.edu."Hate speech and actions directed at intimidating or harassing any members of our campus community have no place at USD and cannot be tolerated," the school said.UCSD says its Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination -- which provides assistance to students, faculty and staff regarding reports of bias, harassment and discrimination -- is working with the school's chief information security officer to investigate the account.Anyone with information regarding the account's creator was asked to contact the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination at OPHD@ucsd.edu."If found that UC San Diego community members are involved, they will be held accountable," the statement said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A dog named Roadrunner was spotted on camera escaping a coyote in an incident that’s happening more than ever before, according to the Helen Woodward Animal Center. The shelter’s veterinarians got a call from neighbors in Vista last month. One of the residents saw a small dog repeatedly on the run from coyotes in the Creekside and Brengle Terrace areas. Neighbors kept in touch through NextDoor as many of them tried to lure the dog to safety. Babs Fry, whose nonprofit “A Way Home For Animals” helps rescue pets, was able to save Roadrunner. She brought the dog to the Helen Woodward Animal Center for a free checkup. “We were concerned that Roadrunner may have been bitten and would require Rabies shots and months of downtime, but he was one of the lucky ones who managed to escape without incident,” said Animal Health Supervisor Madison Hughes. Roadrunner was treated for malnourishment, and skin and flea issues, shelter officials said. Fry took him home for a full recovery and will start interviewing potential adopters next week. Roadrunner’s story is increasingly common, according to Helen Woodward Animal Center officials. The shelter has received more reports of coyote attacks and the deaths of pets than ever before. The increase in coyote encounters may be due to last year’s fires, seasonal drought, heat, and recent housing development, shelter officials said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A frustrating mystery is plaguing commuters in Carmel Valley.A seemingly perfectly good brand new lane meant to ease traffic to the 56 has been coned off for months. The project adds a third lane on southbound Camino del Sur from around Highland Village place to Highway 56. Greg Agius, who commutes that way, says it's been coned off for months. A city staffer told him it would be complete by the end of August, but on Monday it was still inaccessible to drivers. RELATED: San Diego road repairs are ahead of scheduleAgius, who also bikes in the area, said it is making for a tight merge that has led to near fender benders. "It's backing up my commute," he said. "I've actually over the last three to four months had maybe half a dozen close calls."The lane is meant to lighten the congestion in Carmel Valley, which is getting increasingly congested as more housing is built. Developer Lennar hired contractor MGI to add the lane as part of its approval for area housing projects. RELATED: San Diego projects receive funding due to controversial gas tax"This is the one that baffles me the most because it's more dangerous what they've done with the cones than if the cones weren't here," Agius said. The problem rests with the traffic light at the intersection. It doesn't stretch far enough over to be visible to all cars in the new lane. Caltrans Spokesman Ed Cartagena gave an example of cars next to a semi-truck.They wouldn't be able to see the traffic light if not in front of them. Cartagena said it needs to be extended before anyone can benefit from the new asphalt. He also noted recent other work on the lane, above and below ground, including removal of an electric box ten inches above ground.  Either way, Cartagena said the new light should be installed by the end of the week, clearing the way for the lane to open. A city spokesman said the contractor had delays in obtaining the signal pole and mast-arm for the traffic light. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Clairemont woman received a big shock when she looked at her doorbell camera video and found out who vandalized her truck.Every time Kris Larrabee looks at the scratch across the hood of her truck, she gets more upset."Deeply angry and deeply hurt," said Larrabee. The damage appeared Thursday morning after her husband parked the truck in the driveway the night before, blocking part of the sidewalk. "He came back from a long road trip, exhausted. He parked it there so he could unload it the next day," said Larrabee.Just before 6 a.m. on Caywood Street, their Ring video shows an older woman walking a dog, before she pauses to look at the truck. Immediately, she walks across the driveway and runs her hand along the hood, leaving behind a new scratch. Larrabee says repairs will total several thousand dollars."I couldn't believe it. I was shocked," said Larrabee.The identity of the culprit made her heart sink."She's a mature woman. At her age, she should have known better," said Larrabee.Larrabe was even more taken aback, because her other car has been keyed eight times in the driveway in the past year. She had suspected teenagers. In all, neighbors have reported dozens of similar incidents in the past year. A block away, the owner of a van and another vehicle tells 10News he has also been keyed eight times. In all those incidents, the sidewalk was partially blocked. The neighborhood is an older one with shorter driveways. "This is not the solution. She could have left a note. She could have come to us. There's no justification for the anger taken out on a neighborhood," said Larrabee.A detective has been assigned to the case and sources tell 10News police do know who the woman is. 1739
