Bakery owner Gerry Lawrie says has stood outside the front door for more than 20 years. Before that, it stood outside a previous location in Mira Mesa for several years. "He was particularly liked by the children. They like to run up and touch him, and take photos next to him," said Lawrie.The store mascot turned neighborhood icon vanished Tuesday night. In the surveillance video, a vehicle is seen pulling up just before 10:30 p.m. A man gets out and walks toward statue and pushes it to check the weight. He then walks back toward the truck, before turning around and eventually picking up the statue. Finally, he tosses it into the truck and drives off."Disappointed for sure," said Lawrie.Lawrie and his wife Lynn are both at a loss."Feels sad and empty because he was such a part of us. Customers are really upset," said Lynn Lawrie."The Baker Man" was first purchased at an antique warehouse in Corona. They believe it's fiberglass and weighed less than 100 pounds. The owners are making a direct appeal to the thief."He's a special friend and we would like him returned," he said. The couple filed a police report, but they're hoping the thief will simply put it back, no questions asked.The owners are also offering a unique reward for information leading to the return of the statue. TUSCON, Ariz. – Nearly million worth of meth, cocaine and heroin were found in a vehicle along the U.S.-Mexican border over the weekend, according to U.S. Border Patrol.Agents say two 18-year-olds were arrested Saturday after attempting to smuggle the narcotics near Rio Rico.Officials say agents were patrolling the desert north of the border when they saw several people emerge from brush and load packages into a parked truck near Pe?a Blanca Lake before departing back into the desert.Minutes later, border patrol says agents conducted a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet Silverado in the area. Concealed inside the vehicle, they reportedly found 57 packages of suspected meth, cocaine and heroin, with a street value estimated at about ,889,600.The truck’s driver and passenger, both residents of Rio Rico, were arrested and ultimately turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the seized drugs, to face federal drug charges, according to border patrol.Agents say they were unable to locate the individuals that emerged from the brush. 1072

TULSA - Two women fought to stay alive as an armed robber broke into a midtown liquor store, the horrifying moments all caught on tape. Just one day after cheating death, when a man tried to a shatter a family for money, Justin Christian and his family are back to work. "You're not going to scare me off from my store this is what feeds my family this is what pays my bills," Owner of Forest Acres Liquor Justin Christian said. And customers were there not just to make purchases, but lay their eyes and hearts on the women who wouldn't give up without a fight. "I basically see a guy walk in the door from this angle and have a sawed off 12 gauge."Justin was out of town when his mother and sister took 36-year-old Tyrone Lee to task; now watching the video with us. "My mom says open the drawer, give him the money, give him the money."They gave him what he wanted then grabbed their guns, trying to lock him in the small room leading into the store.But one door didn't lock. "She's says stop, stop but he's still got the gun."He turns around, and that's when the fight to stay alive truly began. "He reached over, she ducked and fired again, and of course the gun's empty or else my mom and sister would be dead," Justin cried. He said Lee wanted to kill them. "What they're showing on TV ain't the real deal when you really watch it and know it and clean up the blood, and really understand what happened." He's just grateful it wasn't his family's blood he had to wipe from the floor. "The clerks did an outstanding job of fighting him," said Tulsa Police Sgt.
