Sixteen volunteers from the Wasdale mountain rescue team took turn carrying Daisy, a 121-pound (55 kilogram) St Bernard, from England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike. The mountain rescue team spent nearly five hours rescuing Daisy, who had collapsed while descending the mountain on Friday evening. Rescue workers say she was displaying signs of pain in her rear legs and was refusing to move. They administered some pain relief, adjusted their stretcher to be more dog-friendly and packed a few treats to help settle her down. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Deputies arrested a 13-year-old boy and seized a semi-automatic rifle after he threatened to shoot other students and staff at a Los Angeles-area middle school, authorities said Friday.In a separate case, a boy at another school was taken into custody involving a planned shooting.The arrests came barely a week after deputies were frantically summoned to a high school in Santa Clarita, where a 16-year-old boy killed two fellow students and took his own life.Since then, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has investigated at least 30 school threats, spokesman Sgt. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say “Glee” star Naya Rivera has been found dead at a Southern California lake. Ventura County sheriff’s officials confirmed at a news conference that the body found floating in Lake Piru earlier Monday was the 33-year-old Rivera. The discovery came five days after Rivera’s 4-year-old son was found asleep and alone on a rented boat. Authorities said the following day they believed Rivera had drowned. (CNS) - Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia announced Monday that his stepfather died due to complications from COVID-19, one day after the family held a memorial service for the mayor's mother."We are incredibly saddened to share that my stepfather, Greg O'Donnell, has passed away due to complications from COVID-19," Garcia said in a statement. "It's a heartbreaking loss for our entire family, especially for my brother Jake."O'Donnell, who died Sunday at 58, "was a kind and good-hearted man, an amazing father and grandfather, and the best husband our mom could have ever hoped for.
