LA POSTA RESERVATION, Calif. (KGTV) - A local Native American tribe is considering its legal options after one of their sacred sites was vandalized. At least 5 rocks in an area used by the La Posta Band of Mission Indians’ ancestors were spray painted over the weekend.“A lot people don’t understand they’re on the reservation here,” said Victor Estrada, Vice Chairmen of the La Posta Band of Mission Indians. La Posta Reservation is about 50 miles east of San Diego and was blanketed by snow last week prompting visitors to make the trek out to the high elevation to see it. “You can come out here and play in our snow, but don’t destroy our stuff,” said Estrada, “don’t spray paint your name and your family and say 'hey you were here.' We understand you were here, we know you were here.” Estrada says they found out who may have vandalized it through social media and that the tribe may prosecute, but would be open to the offenders cleaning it up themselves. Those claiming responsibility wrote a statement to 10News saying in part: “We are truly sorry as we were not aware that we were on sacred or tribal lands. My husband will be going up this weekend to clean up the writing on the rocks.” 1206

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a runaway trailer crashing into a parked SUV in Lakeside before the truck hauling it took off.A few minutes past 7 a.m. on Saturday off Julian Avenue, Melissa Heiner heard the crash."We were in bed and heard a loud big thud. Instantly, a car alarm went off," said Heiner.Heiner and her husband ran out and found their SUV undamaged. It was not the same story next door.RELATED: Family to move out of Point Loma home after latest car crash"Just sickening," said Heiner.Surveillance video from her neighbor's home shows a white pickup truck driving down the street, hauling a long trailer. When it turns right, the trailer becomes unhitched and goes straight into driveway. It spears the front corner of a Toyota 4Runner, as the trailer's load flies off from the collision. The truck briefly pauses before driving off."It's sad to see someone would leave it and not care, just assuming someone else would take of their own problems," said Heiner. Just fortunate the damage wasn't worse and no one was hurt," said Heiner.The truck appears to be a newer model pickup, possibly a Dodge. LARGO, Fla. — The family of Linus Phillip, a man killed by a Largo Police officer in Florida on Friday, is accusing detectives of using the dead man's finger to gain access to his cell phone.On Friday, police approached Phillip's car at a WaWa gas station in Clearwater. Police said the vehicle he was driving had illegally tinted windows. While standing near Phillip's car, the officers claim they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Police claim Phillip tried to drive away and use his car as a deadly weapon. One officer, Matthew Steiner, says he was dragged by the car when he tried to open the door and feared for his life.Phillip was shot and killed by police. He did not have a gun in his possession. Steiner, a seven year veteran with no disciplinary action against him, was injured during the incident but is OK.Phillip's family is demanding surveillance video from the incident at the WaWa gas station in Clearwater where he was killed. Police claim the encounter was not caught on video, only officers giving Phillip CPR.The family lawyer, John Trevena was surprised."There was no denial of the video to the family so this is the first I've heard of that," said Trevena.The family also claims that detectives used Phillip's lifeless finger to access his phone at the Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home."So they are allowed to pull him out of the refrigerator and use a dead mans finger to get to his phone. Its disgusting," said Armstrong.Police did not comment on the allegations, citing that there is a still an active investigation into the case.Phillip's mother, Martha Hicks started crying during an interview on Wednesday."They killed him after his 30th birthday. Oh god, he turned 30 on March 11," Hicks said. "It's too much too much we just want to know what happened."The couple has two children together. Their young daughter lost her battle with leukemia last year.Their son, Isaac is 16 months old."My son is no longer going to go have a father, or to make his dad proud. He's not here anymore because of this and the police are slandering his name like some awful person," said Armstrong. "We are fighting to find out what happened." 2240

Less than a year after the Boy Scouts of America decided to invite girls to join, the organization announced that it will refer to its older youth program as "Scouts BSA" starting in February 2019.The name change comes amid a new campaign slogan, "Scout Me In," that was made to emphasize the group's expansion from just boys to boys and girls."Cub Scouts is a lot of fun, and now it's available to all kids," Stephen Medlicott, National Marketing Group Director of Boy Scouts of America, said in a statement. "That's why we love 'Scout Me In' -- because it speaks to girls and boys and tells them, 'This is for you. We want you to join!'"The name change only applies to the program currently called Boy Scouts, which is available for teens ages 11-17. The Cub Scouts program, for children ages 5-10, will not undergo a name change. The name of the organization will remain Boy Scouts of America.The decision to open the scouting program to girls last October was both a reflection of growing progressive attitudes as well as a business decision. The Boy Scouts of America has seen declining numbers for years. The organization says it has nearly 2.3 million youth members between 5 and 21, a decrease from the 2.8 million members in 2012.In its statements, the Boy Scouts of America said more than 3,000 girls have joined the Early Adopter Program and are participating in Cub Scouts ahead of the full launch later this year.  1440
