That's Rose’s goal behind his Band In A Box program.Rose has been distributing hundreds of plain brown boxes with the gift of music inside. It's a spinoff from his Band In A Bus program.“We believe it’s like giving away a box of joy,” said Rose.With more and more questions about what classes and extracurriculars will look like as the coronavirus pandemic continues, Band In A Bus is changing its approach to hand out recorders and drum sticks to as many kids as possible.“The least we can do in these trying times is help kids feel some type of happiness and excitement every day,” Rose said. "That’s kind of why we’re trying to pilot this program.”Band In A Bus says budget cuts due to the coronavirus are forcing some schools to cut back music programs even more, which makes these free boxes even more important for kids.“The worst thing that we can do to a kid is strip them of this creative outlet,” Rose said. “As a growing young person, the most valuable thing is learning who you are and your tone of voice.”The Band in a Box program has enough money to help about 500 kids, but it is raising more money to try to impact as many families as possible.“That’s the experience that every kid can kind of relate to – that excitement, that fun,” Rose said. “You could see their smiles as they were drumming. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and the Department of Health Services issued a new order Tuesday limiting the capacity of bars, restaurants and stores in the state to 25% on Tuesday, as Wisconsin becomes a hot spot for COVID-19 in the U.S.Evers directed DHS Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm to issue the order Tuesday afternoon.The order is capping capacity to 25% in public spaces beginning on Thursday. Gatherings in indoor spaces without an occupancy limit are limited to 10 people."We're seeing increased COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state, and every region is reporting current and imminent hospital staffing shortages in one or more of their facilities," Palm said.Wisconsin has become a hot spot for coronavirus cases in the country after schools reopened this fall. The state has tallied record numbers of cases, hospitalizations and deaths in recent days. Areas that have been hit particularly hard include the state's two largest cities — Milwaukee and Madison — as well as smaller cities like Fox Valley, Green Bay and Wausau.The governor's top attorney, Ryan Nilsestuen, says he's confident the restrictions will withstand legal challenges from the GOP-controlled legislature. Evers' "Safer at Home: order issued last March was eventually blocked by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, after the legislature raised objections with a potential overreach of authority by the health department and the governor's office.“At the end of the day, doing orders and having them challenged in court maybe makes for great theater,” Evers said during a press conference Tuesday. “But it frankly does nothing in making sure people are safer in the state of Wisconsin.”The order goes into effect at 8 a.m. local time on Thursday and will remain in effect until Nov. 6. WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard has been arrested in Winnipeg. Court records show Nygard, 79, was arrested under the Extradition Act and is set to appear in a Winnipeg courtroom this afternoon.According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Nygard faces a nine-count indictment in the United States on racketeering, sex trafficking, and related crimes.Manhattan federal prosecutors stated Nygard’s charges relate to a “decades-long pattern of criminal conduct involving at least dozens of victims in the United States, the Bahamas, and Canada, among other locations.”Earlier this year, U.S. federal authorities raided the Manhattan headquarters of the Canadian fashion mogul in February. This search came amid claims he trafficked and sexually assaulted dozens of teenage girls and women.The FBI searched the designer’s Times Square offices less than two weeks after 10 women filed a lawsuit accusing Nygard of enticing young and impoverished women to his estate in the Bahamas with cash and promises of modeling opportunities.According to prosecutors, from 1995 to 2020, Nygard used his international fashion brand to recruit and pay for sex with the victims, who were put on the payroll as “models” or “assistants.”Prosecutors said Nygard allegedly referred to the victims as his “girlfriends,” which required them to travel and stay with him at his palatial properties in California, the Bahamas, and Canada.According to the press release, Nygard allegedly hosted so-called “Pamper Parties,” named for their buffet, open bar, and spa treatments, to recruit more girls and young women.According to prosecutors, he allegedly would use a “girlfriend” or employee to scout out a chosen victim — who would then be forced into sexual activity and paid in cash.Prosecutors said Nygard also is accused of hosting sexual “swaps” with other friends and business associates, who would bring a “date” to trade for sex with one of his “girlfriends.”Nygard kept the “girlfriends” under constant surveillance, insisting they needed his permission to leave the properties, prosecutors said.According to the AP, several of Nygard’s victims claim they were 14 or 15 years old when the fashion mogul gave them alcohol or drugs and then raped them. 2300

When you think of police officers, you may think of the badge or the local precinct may come to mind, but a lasso?“You got to have a lasso in a small town,” Sgt. Jace Peterson said with a laugh.Sgt. Peterson says it is an item he never leaves home without. Home is Nephi, Utah and it has been most of his life.“Oh, I was a good kid who got in very little trouble,” Peterson said.Nephi is a "blink and you miss it" stop along Interstate-15 between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.Sgt. Peterson is just one of 10 full-time officers.“I just patrol all the corners of town, backstreets and the main thoroughfares,” he said.A disorderly conduct call sometimes comes in the form of a farm animal.“We’ve had cows and goats,” Peterson said. “I mean you name it and they run loose around here.”Sgt. Peterson knows he is just one call away from a surprise class reunion.“It makes it entertaining when you stop somebody you know or you’re on a call with somebody you went to high school with,” he said.Life moves at a slower pace in these parts. It is a stark contrast from what officers in major cities across the country are dealing with.“The rioting and the protest,” Sgt. Peterson said slowly shaking his head. “I mean, it starts to wear on you a little bit and know that other officers aren’t as lucky as we are.”The Nephi Chief of Police echoes those sentiments.“You know, the great thing is I had the big city policing experience when I was young,” said Chief Mike Morgan. “When I was young, I could get out and do the things that needed to get done and I was able to learn; that experience brought me here.”Like Peterson, Chief Morgan has come home.“There’s no place like home,” Chief Morgan said with a chuckle.The move from big city life means big changes.“There are no protests at all down here,” Chief Morgan said.The department is prepared for the day some of the bigger city issues may creep into town.“We’ve got all the equipment I could ever ask for and it’s such a great community,” Sgt. Peterson said.Even a worldwide pandemic is not affecting the small-town police force much.“I mean, we know it’s there and we know it’s just one bad day away, but until then, we’re just going to sort of enjoy it,” Sgt.
