(KGTV) — In a show of solidarity, Escondido Police Chief Ed Varso and Mayor Paul McNamara joined community members for a peaceful demonstration outside of City Hall Wednesday.“I’m standing here on behalf of my department to make sure the community understands that we are all together in this,” said Varso at the event. “We all condemn what happened to Mr. Floyd it should have never of happened, it was wrong, and I’m glad they’re being held accountable for it.”The organized demonstration included several speakers, including Yusef Miller of the Racial Justice Coalition San Diego, Rev. FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) -- A tortoise is recovering after falling 10 feet from a wall Sunday, cracking its shell.The tortoise was found by a good Samaritan after falling from a 10-foot wall while being chased by a dog, according to the County News Center.The 70-pound tortoise was taken to a veterinary hospital where animal services were called.Officials say that’s when they learned it would cost several thousand dollars to fix the 35 to 40-year-old tortoise.“We have a donor-driven Spirit fund that we can use for severe medical cases such as this one,” said County Animal Services Director Dan DeSousa. “This tortoise will get the extensive, aggressive care and long-term observation that he needs to regain his health and hopefully live to a great, old age.”The tortoise underwent surgery Tuesday, where veterinarians put screws into the shell then used ties on the screws to hold the broken pieces together.Veterinarians then used the same paste material that dentures are made from to seal the cracks.For more information or to donate to the Spirit fund, click here. 1098

(KGTV) - Over the weekend a horrified Fallbrook family discovered their truck destroyed and they believe football loyalties fueled the vicious attack.Just behind a swing set along Gird Road are some displays of Jesse Wilson's pride for his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs. His mailbox is adorned with the Chiefs logo and colors. "I'm a solid fan. Watched them ever since I was a kid," said Wilson.On Sunday, hours after he watched his team clobber the Oakland Raiders, someone did the same to his 2017 Dodge Ram Laramie.RELATED: Football stolen during NFL game returned to player after hunt"It's anger and confusion," said Wilson.Wilson discovered the destruction Monday morning. "Noticed my antenna was bent, and the truck looked lower than normal ... the tires were flat," said Wilson.A closer look revealed shattered windows, deep scratches, and mangled mirrors and wipers. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of Encinitas announced a timeline Monday for its leaf blower ordinance restrictions. The rule, which bans all gas-powered leaf blowers and restricts hours of use, was adopted by the Encinitas City Council on Aug. 21. The ordinance took effect for city operations on Sept. 20. By Dec. 20, all commercial operators will be required to comply with the rules. All others have until Jan. 20, 2020 to adhere to the restrictions. The new ordinance includes the following restrictions: Prohibits the use of all gas-powered leaf blowers citywide by January 20, 2020; Allows for the use of electric or battery-powered leaf blowers; Requires responsible use of blower equipment to control dust and noise; Leaf blowers of all types may only be used between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and between 12 noon and 5 p.m. on Sundays.Anyone who must purchase a new electric or battery-powered leaf blower can take part in a rebate program to partially subsidize the purchase.
