SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans welcomed spring Tuesday as a storm raced towards Southern California. It's expected to be a pleasant and warm day with a mix of sun and clouds for San Diego County, but this is merely the calm before the storm. The latest predictions from the National Weather Service show that the storm could dump anywhere between a quarter of an inch to as much as three inches of rain in parts of the county. RELATED: Mandatory evacuations issued for Santa Barbara County ahead of winter stormAs far as timing, the first storm of the spring should fall over San Diego Thursday afternoon into the overnight hours. The public can get free sand and bags, or free bags, at locations around San Diego County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are searching for a suspect who they say tried to sexually assault a woman before stealing her car.According to police, the incident happened on the 1700 block of India Street at 4:33 a.m. Sunday.Police say the man walked into Cafe Italia while the victim was cleaning. The man then pushed the woman into a back room where he tried to sexually assault her while wielding a Bowie knife.The woman was able to fight the suspect off before he grabbed her car keys and drove out of the area in the tan, 1998 GMC Jimmy with California license plate 7VOY594.The man is described as a 25 to 30-year-old white male with a medium complexion who is five feet, five inches tall with a thin build, has dark, curly hair and is unshaven.The suspect was last seen wearing a white baseball cap with black stripes and stars resembling an American flag, a black short-sleeved t-shirt and tan shorts with dark, high-top tennis shoes.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police’s Sex Crimes Unit at 619-531-2210. 1060

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police and Crime Stoppers released photos Wednesday in the search for the burglars responsible for taking half a million dollars’ worth of items during break-in at the Fashion Valley Hermes de Paris store.Up to 10 people got out of three vehicles at the north end of the mall about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 18. Surveillance video shows the group approaching the store and using a pry bar to open the front door.The group stole purses, jewelry and clothing worth 0,000 in just two minutes.RELATED: San Diego mall burglars steal from HermesPolice said the group wore hooded sweatshirts and gloves. The vehicles used for the heist were a white Chevy Suburban and two blue sedans with paper license plates.Investigators conducting follow-ups uncovered new surveillance photos of people they believe to be responsible for the crime.The pictures show three men inside a market. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating an alleged attack on three women in hijabs in Little Italy as a possible hate crime. The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. Sunday on Columbia Street near Beech.Three women in hijabs were walking under scaffolding when a man approached from the other direction. Despite one woman moving to give him room, witnesses say 50-year-old Kyle Allen lunged his shoulder into one of them. "Fists started flying, and it was his fists. He started swinging at the women, trying to hit the woman that he almost knocked down, but he ended up hitting one of the other women," said a witness named Amy, who called 911 during the altercation. A hijab is a headscarf worn by some Muslim women. Amy, who asked us not to use her last name, said she also saw Allen rip off one of the women's hijabs from her face. "As I got closer I heard him calling her names and telling them to go back to where they came from," Amy said. Cell phone video shot after the incident showed Allen, going back and forth with bystanders. He ultimately walked to his high rise apartment around the corner. Witnesses followed him and pointed police in his direction.A San Diego Police spokesman told 10News that Allen greeted officers at his unit with a handgun that had a silencer. He was arrested without incident on firearms, battery, and criminal threat charges. Calls and texts to Allen's phone were not immediately returned. Two police officers were staged on his floor inside his building, but he was not there. Allen is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 21. 1583

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ralphs grocery stores are extending their hours to help seniors and provide greater flexibility for the general public, according to Director of Corporate Affairs John Votava.All stores will open at 6 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. for shoppers 60 years and older. "They're the most vulnerable population out there today, so we want to make sure they have time to come into our stores and shop uninhibited," Votava said.Locations will remain open to the public until at least 10 p.m., some will stay open later.Ralphs is also offering free pharmacy delivery for most locations and free pickup service for most grocery orders. Families took advantage of the pickup service Sunday at the Ralphs in Mission Valley. "I think it's going to make people feel comfortable shopping in a different way. If you can order online or call it in for sure," Tim Earp said through a mask.Votava said they're working on other safety features to protect customers and their employees. Plexiglass will be installed next week at checkout counters, and decals are already on the floor to encourage social distancing at checkout.Votava also said employees are allowed to wear masks and gloves while they work.He does have one request for anyone in the store, "if you see a senior who is shopping throughout the day, please let them cut to the front of the line so they can get in and out of the store safely."Votava said this is the new normal for now, and the store hours will reflect that indefinitely.
