DENVER – Colorado blazed trails when it legalized pot and now Denver could lead the way decriminalizing magic mushrooms.The group Denver for Psilocybin may soon have the all-clear to start gathering signatures so you can vote on it this fall.Gathering at the steps of the Denver City and County building on Wednesday, the group — chanting at times, "free the spores!" — met with city leaders about their push to decriminalize psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms.Tyler Williams, one of the leaders of Denver for Psilocybin, spoke to Scripps station KMGH in Denver about their reasoning behind the push."There's a lot of research for all sorts of mental health issues. Everything from anxiety to depression to cluster headaches, addiction," said Williams.But he said he doesn't need the research to prove his claims. He credits their use saved his life a few years ago. "I had a suicide attempt November 12th of 2015 and I think it helped me get out of my depression, and it's helped me with my PTSD," Williams said.He's not alone. There are a growing number of people turning to psilocybin.Licensed professional counselor Kathy Hawkins treats a few number of people, not during their use, but only before and after."So, I’m a place where they can come and talk about it. So they can make sure they’re being safe about how they’re using, what they're using, why they’re using," said Hawkins.LSD and shrooms were big in the 60's. There was even research to study the effects of the psychedelic compound, but then the government labeled it a Schedule 1 drug; illegal because of its negative physical and psychological effects.However, many point to a study of cancer patients at Johns Hopkins, who experienced a year-long of positive effect from mushrooms."They’re so desperate for help, they’re willing to try. So they've had big breakthroughs, relief from trauma, from anxiety, from depression so anything that's going to help. I think is worth investigating," said Hawkins. 2031

He’s in real estate and construction and rents equipment. Mark says it takes 80 hours to decorate about ,000 worth of props and lights.Every year, the Vane Sile couple would dress up and pass out full-size candy bars to 1,400 trick-or-treaters. But because of the pandemic, they are keeping safe and won’t be hosting trick-or-treaters.This year, people are welcome to walk up the driveway and check out all the spooky sights at a safe distance.“People are truly enthusiastic about it,” Mark said.It is not just Halloween, they go big on Independence Day and Christmas.Mark has so many decorations, he built his own storage room. The homeowner is so festive, he was featured in a Valero Energy commercial for putting up half a million lightsMark says he’s happy when all of his efforts bring smiles and lasting memories for little ones.“When you have Halloween decorations, you have Christmas decorations, it’s for everybody to enjoy," he said. "Take a step back, relax. DENVER, Colo. -- A man was shot and killed near the Denver Art Museum Saturday afternoon. A suspect is in custody, police said. A second person was initially arrested, but police later determined that second person was not affiliated with the shooting.The Denver Police Department said Saturday evening that the suspect in the shooting was a private security guard. He was identified Sunday as Matthew Dolloff, 30. He is being held for investigation of first degree murder.“Further investigation has determined the suspect is a private security guard with no affiliation with Antifa. Additional information will be released as it becomes available," the police department tweeted. Denver news outlet KUSA said it had hired the private security guard."A private security guard contracted through Pinkerton by (KUSA) is the suspect detained by DPD. DENVER – Psychologists and social workers from Denver Public Schools were on-hand at Joe Shoemaker Elementary School Monday morning after a fourth-grade student died as a result of suicide late last week.The Denver County Coroner’s Office on Monday confirmed the boy, 9-year-old Jamel Myles, died as a result of hanging shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday.On Friday, Shoemaker Elementary School Principal Christine Fleming sent a letter home to families at the school that Jamal had died. Fleming did not discuss the manner by which the boy had died, but shared a guide showing signs of stress that students might be showing in the wake of the boy’s death.“Our thoughts are with the student’s family at this time,” Fleming wrote. “We will continue to process this sad news as a school community, and again, please feel free to reach out as needed for ongoing support.”Jamal's mother Leia Pierce told the Denver Post that the suicide was a result of being bullied after the boy came out as gay. “My child died because of bullying. My baby killed himself,” Pierce told The Denver Post on Monday. “He didn’t deserve this. He wanted to make everybody happy even when he wasn’t.
