LA MESA (KGTV) -- It was a frustrating flight for one mother in La Mesa, who said an airline would not allow her to sit next to her toddler without forking over extra cash.Aliss, who declined to use her last name, said she chose seats together when she booked her ticket through a third-party website. Aliss and her son, Kai, were travelling from Providence, Rhode Island back to San Diego with a layover in Minneapolis. When she got to the airport in Providence, her seat on her Sun Country Airlines flight was not next to her child.“I would have never booked a flight where we couldn’t sit together,” Aliss said. She said her options were limited and that the representative with the airline said she could charge her a fee.“I can’t pay that. What else can we do? And she said, well for I can move you guys in a row front and back of each other. I said that doesn’t help my problem. He’s still not sitting next to me,” Aliss said. She said she told the airline representative not to charge her the money, but she was charged anyway. She said she did not get help from anyone with the airline, including the flight attendant. “She said no, you’re on your own. You’ll just have to argue with people,” Aliss said. Fortunately, a grandmother ended up giving up her seat so Aliss could sit with Kai. That was only the beginning of her problems. From Minneapolis to San Diego, Aliss’ flight was delayed. At first, it was only three hours.“No big deal,” she said. She tried keeping Kai entertained and saw many other parents in a similar situation. The three hour delay became much longer with passengers unclear on when they were going to leave. “It was confusing, frustrating,” Aliss said. She said they were promised 0 vouchers for the long delay. Aliss said their 3:10 p.m. flight finally left around 12:30 a.m. Team 10 contacted Sun Country Airlines, who apologized for what happened. In a statement, a spokesperson told Team 10: “This was not the level of service we aim to provide, as it is our policy that children always be seated with an adult on the itinerary at no cost. We have followed up with our airport staff on this error to ensure our policy is being carried out correctly. We have issued a full refund to the passenger for the fees incurred at the counter related to the seat assignment. We were also able to ensure two seats were assigned next to one another on her return flight. Our team has resent the 0 vouchers from the flight delay to the email we have on file, and we are adding an additional 0 voucher for the inconvenience.”Aliss said it was a lesson for her to be prepared and to, “be wise with who you spend your money with.” A few years ago, Congress passed the Families Flying Together act, which was supposed to keep parents and children together on planes. (KGTV) -- People on social media are outraged after video shows a security guard questioning a mother's immigration status in a Target parking lot. The woman who recorded and posted the video, Sonia Serrano Zavala, says the guard was asking the mother if she is here legally when she started recording. The unidentified security guard can be heard in the video saying, "You’re illegally here and you’re having babies and you’re probably on welfare."The woman, seen holding a baby in the parking lot, was reportedly asking for money. Midway through the video, the security guard says "it's a scam" and claims the woman has a car and a condo.As of Sunday afternoon, the video received more than 600,000 views. The incident took place at a Target located in the Marketplace at the Grove Shopping Center near San Deigo. WARNING: The video below contains graphic language.  936

(KGTV) – Leslie Furcron, the woman who was shot in the face with a bean bag round during a May 30 protest outside of La Mesa police headquarters, addressed the media Wednesday.The 59-year-old Furcron and her attorney, Dante Pride, are slated to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. in La Mesa."I'm a law-abiding citizen," said Furcron in her brief statement to reporters. "I never came out here that night [La Mesa protests] for this to be a part of my story."Furcron was released from the hospital on Tuesday after having been placed in a medically induced coma with a breathing tube.She was initially hospitalized after a La Mesa officer fired a bean bag round into a crowd of protesters. Furcron was struck in the forehead.Her attorney described the bean bag as a canvas sack filled with buckshot, or lead pellets.It's unclear at what range Furcron was struck but her attorney said,"she was too close for them to use that round if it sticks in your forehead."Furcron was among the thousands of people in front of the police department, where a demonstration against police violence started peacefully later turned to chaos and officers began to deploy tear gas and bean bag rounds.LMPD Chief Walt Vaquez said last week that the incident was under investigation and the officer involved had been identified. Vasquez issued the following statement Wednesday:"I am sincerely thankful that Ms. Furcron has been released from the hospital and is able to now heal at home with her family. I pray that she has a speedy and full recovery. But before you grab an empty shopping cart and start hunting for Black Friday-style bargains, you may want to know a few cautions.If earlier Toys R Us closing sales are any indication, among the 200 stores that started liquidating in February, you may want to bring some skepticism along with your wallet. We went to one store at the beginning of its closing sale,and shoppers said they were not impressed.So here are 9 commonly asked questions:1. How big are the discounts? In the first week, they may not be great.  We found signs saying "up to 40 percent off," but most items had much less of a discount than 40 percent?off. Will they discount recent sales prices?  No, as with any liquidation sale, discounts are off full list price.
