A federal court judge in California on Monday ordered the US government to make immediate changes to how it treats undocumented immigrant children it has placed in secure facilities.The court's orders ranged from very specific demands, such as to get informed consent or a court order before giving children psychotropic medications at the Shiloh Treatment Center in Texas, to sweeping orders requiring the government to stop imposing conditions that have led to months of delays before it releases minors to parents or relatives.CNN previously reported on the wide-ranging abuses at Shiloh and other facilities described by children in sworn declaration in the case that led to Monday's order. A brush fire had closed a stretch of Interstate 95 northbound and southbound in northern Indian River County, Florida on Monday morning. The highway reopened at 8:15 a.m. Delays are occurring from Fellsmere Road to the Indian River/Brevard County line in both directions.  This is about a 15- to 20-mile stretch.The helicopter for Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach flew over the area at 6:40 a.m. and spotted a large amount of smoke blowing onto the interstate.  526

A California high school student has been charged with two counts of battery stemming from a fight involving a Donald Trump "Make America Great Again" cap, according to KOVR-TVCell phone video of the fight shows a Union Mine High School student confronting and yelling at a fellow student wearing a red MAGA hat in support of President Trump. After yelling at her classmate, she reportedly grabbed the hat off his head and threw it on the ground and left the classroom, according to the El Dorado Sheriff's Office.The student later returned to the classroom and again removed the student's hat. The teacher escorted the girl out of the classroom, and she reportedly slapped him on the arm as he led her out. A school resource officer arrested the girl in the hallway. She was taken to a local juvenile detention center and suspended from school, according to KTXL-TV. The girl was charged with two counts of battery, once against the student with the MAGA hat, the other against the teacher."“…student and staff safety is our highest priority and the UMHS administration will continue to cooperate with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office as the incident is being investigated,” the school said in a statement, according to KTXL.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. A Highlands County deputy has died after being shot in the head in Lake Placid on Sunday evening. Deputy William Gentry was responding to a neighborhood dispute involving a cat that allegedly had been shot by 69-year-old Joseph Edward Ables.The sheriff's office said Gentry went to speak to Ables when the suspect shot the deputy.Gentry was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.“William is an experienced law enforcement officer and serves as one of our Field Training Deputies,” Sheriff Paul Blackman said. “His brother is one of our detectives. This is an unimaginable tragedy for our agency. Our prayers are with Deputy Gentry and his family and we ask that your prayers be with them, also.”Ables, who is a convicted felon with a history of violence towards law enforcement, was arrested at the scene and taken to the Highlands County Jail.The Highlands County Sheriff's Office released the following statement on Monday: It is with tremendous sadness that I report that Deputy William J. A Canton, Ohio high school teacher has been indicted on multiple felony counts for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with students.Tiffany Eichler, 36, was charged with three counts of sexual battery, all third-degree felonies.Eichler is accused of having sex with three different students who attended McKinley High School in Canton while she was employed as a physical education teacher.Canton police interviewed Eichler on March 8 after they were notified by the director of school security. Eichler told police she was being blackmailed for money by students after having had sex with them, according to a police report.During the interview, Eichler told authorities she picked a student up near his house and the two engaged in sexual activity in her car. According to the report, Eichler went to the student's house later the same day and the two engaged in sexual activity in the basement. The report states that following the encounters, the student reached out to the teacher and asked for money to buy antibiotics.The student also told Eichler that his sister found out about their relationship and he needed money to keep her quiet, according to the police report. Police reports say Eichler allegedly had sexual contact with another student one day after school when she called him into her office before practice. Eichler allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a third student in the backseat of her car at an unknown park.Following the investigation, the school district released the following statement: 1578
