A Tokyo skyscraper is set to become the world's tallest wooden building.Japanese company Sumitomo Forestry says its 1,148-feet-tall timber tower will be completed in 2041, to mark the 350th anniversary of the business that year. The W350 tower will cost an estimated 600 billion yen (.6 billion) to build.The 70-story tower will be a hybrid structure made from 90% wooden materials. A steel vibration-control framework will underpin the design -- an important feature in a city where earthquakes are frequent.Green balconies will populate the skyscraper's exterior, connecting the building to its environment."The aim is to create environmentally-friendly and timber-utilizing cities where (cities) become forests through increased use of wooden architecture for high-rise buildings," the company said in a press release.The Japanese government is trying to encourage more developers to use wood. A Phoenix mom allegedly used a 'touch Taser' to get her teenage son up for church services. Phoenix Police report that on Easter Sunday 40-year-old Sharron Dobbins allegedly "contact tazed her teenage son on the leg."Police say Dobbins told them that she, "only sparked the Taser to get the kids up for church on Easter." The boy was not injured but had two small bumps on his leg where he says the Taser was used. Dobbins was arrested for child abuse. 485

A University of Florida research unit killed more than 150 birds over the past 10 years, the Gainesville Sun reported, citing U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service documents.The paper says that of the birds killed at the Plant Science Research and Education Unit, 47 were sandhill cranes and 105 were ring-billed gulls.While the Florida sandhill crane isn't considered endangered, it is a threatened species according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.Director of the unit, Jim Boyer, told the Sun the cranes and gulls had damaged or eaten crops grown for research, including high-value peanuts part of a breeding study.The unit says it has since decided to use non-lethal means to protect crops from cranes. 732

A police officer in Colorado is on leave after comments he made on Facebook that allegedly threaten violence in the wake of the presidential election, according to multiple reports.The police chief in the town of Platteville became aware of the officer’s comments Wednesday afternoon and the officer was immediately placed on leave, according to The Denver Post.The officer, identified in media reports as Jason Taft, posted the following comments on Facebook on Wednesday:“If for some reason we lose do we get to be little bitches and beat the hell out of the other party like they did,” Taft wrote in his post, which was still publicly visible Thursday afternoon. “Because they don’t believe in what we do. In fact in case we actually let Biden win. There will be far fewer results than this year because we’ll help them find God. Democrats you were scared of Trump now’s the true time to be afaird. A string of five arrests in one week is highlighting a new trend in the drug smuggling business. Teens are strapping Fentanyl to their stomachs and back and trying to walk it across the border.Since March 27th, US Border Patrol agents have made five such arrests of teenagers at the San Ysidro port of entry."It's something that the US Attorney's office is not going to sit idly by and watch the cartels manipulate these children," says Deptuty US Attorney Mark Conover.Overall, Fentanyl smuggling is on the rise. Officials say it's up 1250% since 2015. And between 2016 and 2017, the number of Fentanyl seizures at San Diego's border went up from 260 to 952.But it hasn't been until the last few months that agents started seeing teens trying to move the drug."Cartels are using high school students to recruit other high school students," says Conover. "Oftentimes it's underpriveleged students that need a few hundred dollars are are willing to assume the risk of strapping drugs to their body."The arrests show that most of the teens are US Citizens who live in Mexico with their families. They cross the border every morning for school. Many don't know the danger associated with the drug.Fentanyl is extremely potent. The amount that it takes to cause a fatal overdose is smaller than the size of Abraham Lincoln's face on a penny. Agents worry that if the package the teens are smuggling breaks, it could kill them and others around them.Already in 2018, there have been 8 confirmed overdose deaths from Fentanyl in San Diego, with another 12 under suspicion.  In 2017, there were 82. As recently as 2014, when the first Fentanyl seizure was made at the border, there were only 15."This is a binational problem, and it requires a binational solution," says Conover.The US Attorney's office met this week with the Mexican Consular General in San Diego to discuss ways to fight the new trend. They plan PSAs that will air on both sides of the border, and an educational program where they can go into schools and teach kids the legal and physical dangers of becoming a drug mule."We certainly hope the kids that would consider this, once they know the risks, once the know the consequences, once they know there's very little upside for themselves, they'll think twice," says Conover.The US Attorney's office is also working with the DA's office in San Diego on prosecuting offenders. But since the teens are in the juvenile system, oftentimes the punishment is light. For adults, 400 grams of Fentanyl carries a mandatory 10-year sentence. The US Attorney's office is hoping they can target the adults dealing the drug in the US and the Cartels supplying it in Mexico to stop the trend.They've already prosecuted 3 dealers in San Diego this year, charging them when someone overdoses. 2813
