LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The 2010 U.S.-China Real Estate Summit kicked off Thursday in San Gabriel, Los Angeles with the aim of building relations between top real estate players in the two countries.During the two-day summit, officials from all levels of both countries and experts in real estate-related areas will discuss U. S. economy stimulus, "green" low-carbon housing construction and ways to conduct real estate deals on both sides.Led by China's Real Estate Chamber of Commerce, more than 150 industry leaders from China are attending the summit, entitled " Real Estate Without Borders".Representatives from the U.S. side include Ed Roski, CEO/ Chairman of Majestic Realty, Henry Cisneros, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and current Execitive Chariman of CityView, and John Picard, founder of Picard Consulting.Speaking at the opening session, U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu said great potentials remain to be tapped to promote cooperation between the United States and China in all fields, including the real estate.She said the two countries need to join hands in addressing the real estate problems facing them.These problems cannot be resolved by one side alone, she stressed.Albert Huang, Mayor of San Gabriel, said the summit offered a good opportunity for promoting bilateral cooperation in the real estate."For the first time, this summit brings industry leaders from the two largest economies in the world to discusss collaborations in real estate development and investment," said Huang, who hosted the summit. "It will undoubtedly assist economic development and job growth in our communities during this challenging economic environment."On the sidelines of the summit, guests from China will join dozens of scholars and experts of real estate business and architecture at a roundtable discussion at University of Southern California on Friday.

URUMQI, Aug. 3 (Xinhua)-- Six people were dead and two were missing in a flood that hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on July 26, said local authorities Monday.Torrential rains pounded Akto County from July 26 to 27, triggered flooding, damaged houses and mines, according to the committee of the Communist Party of China of Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture which administers the county.

CHANGCHUN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Floods have left 85 people dead and 66 missing in northeast China's Jilin Province over the past two months, local authorities said Saturday.More than 5 million people have been affected since the flood season began in June and some 1.5 million people have been evacuated, the Jilin Provincial Civil Affairs Department said in a statement.Additionally, almost 82,000 houses have collapsed and 198,000 others have been damaged, the statement said.Soldiers pack stones to reinforce a bank in Yongji County, northeast China's Jilin Province, Aug. 4, 2010. SHANGHAI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- All entertainment activities at the Shanghai World Expo will be suspended Sunday in a show of respect for the victims of a massive mudslide in northwest China's Gansu Province.The Chinese national flags at the Expo Garden would fly at half-mast, and both the music broadcast at the opening and during the day would be stopped, the Shanghai Expo Bureau announced Saturday.Sun Weimin, the Expo Bureau's concierge director, said flags of the Bureau of International Expositions and the Shanghai World Expo would also fly at half-mast.Other Expo participants could decide for themselves whether to fly their flags at half-mast.The announcement was in line with that of the State Council, China's cabinet, which ordered suspension of all public entertainment and that Chinese flags fly at half-mast Sunday.The mudslide, which hit Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, on Aug. 8 has killed at least 1,239 people and an estimated 505 are still missing.According to the Expo Bureau, the Gansu Pavilion will hold a "solemn and simple" ceremony starting 10 a.m. Sunday. The big screen in the pavilion will broadcast pictures and videos of disaster relief in Zhouqu County.On Saturday night, a performance from Chongqing Municipality will include a tribute to victims of the Aug. 8 mudslide.Almost 100 performances and cultural activities scheduled for Sunday would be suspended. A performance by the Panama national troupe, scheduled Sunday morning at the Panama Pavilion, would be held on Saturday evening, a pavilion spokesman told Xinhua.Sunday also marked the National Pavilion Day for Equatorial Guinea. Whether the scheduled celebration to be held was still under discussion, said the Expo Bureau.Since Aug. 8, volunteers at the Shanghai Expo have put stickers with four Chinese characters "May Heaven Bless Zhouqu" on their uniforms, to call for attention on the mudslide-hit area. On the sticker is a picture of Zhouqu, taken by an Expo volunteer who had just returned from a volunteer teaching program in the county.Donation boxes in the Pavilion of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have received donations for Zhouqu.

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Official Report for the Beijing Olympic Games and the Paralympics was unveiled here on Sunday in a bid to provide valuable experience and lessons for futures hosts.The launching of the Report, detailing the planning, organisation and celebration of the two Games, coincided with the second anniversary of the Beijing Olympic Games which opened on Aug. 8 two years ago.The Beijing Olympics official report comprises four volumes telling stories and experiences in the bidding process, the organization and operation, the Games ceremonies and summaries as well as the official competition results.
