CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old who reportedly made a social media threat against Bonita Vista High School was arrested Tuesday, police say. According to police, officials discovered that the juvenile was responsible for the second of two threats against the school. "The juvenile told police that he had seen the first threat online and decided to 'join-in' to further scare people. He said he thought it would be funny," police said. The teenager was arrested for making criminal threats and is expected to be released to his parents. (KGTV) - An afternoon drive on the I-805 was interrupted by an explosion of glass, and a very close call.Just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jennifer Opdahl was northbound in the slow lane, and traffic was flowing. As she drove under the East Palomar Street overpass, she heard a close 'boom.' She didn't see anything flying at her, but she felt something."Kind of an explosion. Just heard glass splintering. It clearly came from my above my head. I think I ducked and screamed, but I was still driving," said Opdahl.When she later got out, she could barely believe what she was seeing: the sunroof on her Volkswagen Golf was shattered. Under the glass is a panel which slides back and forth. Whatever struck likely bounced off. Opdahl is thankful the sunroof wasn't open. The roof is inches from where her head was. "I dodged a bullet. I very easily could be dead right now," said Opdahl.Ophdal believes that bullet was a something heavy tossed from the overpass. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Talk about setting the academics bar high.An unexpected message sent to families of Rancho del Rey Middle School in Otay Ranch Wednesday night left about 2000 students trying to explain why they were required to attend Saturday School.("Could you describe the ruckus, sir," was probably said.)The school blitzed automated phone messages, texts, and emails alerting parents or guardians to have their child at school 8 a.m. Saturday morning for a half day of study."A teacher will come out to greet your student and escort them to a classroom, they are released at 12pm. Students should bring school work or reading materials for a 4 hour period of study," the message said.The school, which broadcast the messages to every registered family at around 5 p.m., confirmed about five hours later that the barrage of alerts was an error. "Earlier today a message about Saturday School was sent to all students. Please disregard the message, it was meant for a select group of students that needed to attend," said Rancho del Rey Middle School Assistant Principal Michael Govea.Since the school offices were closed when the messages were sent, nobody was around to answer calls from anxious families.
