THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Five people were arrested Sunday in Ventura County after attempting to steal several Apple products from the store inside The Oaks Mall. Around 3:17 p.m. three of the suspects entered the store, all wearing hooded sweatshirts with the hoods up, police said. Once inside the group proceeded to steal Apple iPhones and laptops totaling ,000.00. All three suspects ran out of the store, crashing into and knocking down a female customer. Police said other Apple customers were able to tackle two of the suspects - identified as Donte Sims and Timothy Terry, both of Antioch, California - and keep them down in time for law enforcement arrived. Sims and Terry were arrested on criminal conspiracy and burglary charges. The third suspect got away but was seen getting into a waiting vehicle. Around 3:36 p.m. Sunday, a Ventura County Sheriff patrol deputy caught a vehicle with three people driving over the speed limit on State Route 118 in Simi Valley. Sacramento resident Mona Benoit was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Her passengers, Tynisha Noel of Fresno and Edward Benton of Antioch were arrested after a search of the vehicle revealed that the Apple merchandise stolen from the Thousand Oaks stores was in the vehicle - along with merchandise reported stolen after a burglary in Los Angeles. Thousand Oaks Police Department Detectives identified the group as an organized retail theft crew and are investigating.  1571

Federal investigators are examining some of these relationships and whether any of them were part of an effort to coordinate with Russia's election-meddling efforts.On Monday, it was revealed that Donald Trump Jr. exchanged some private messages on Twitter with WikiLeaks during the 2016 presidential campaign. Top officials in the White House were aware in early 2019 of classified intelligence indicating Russia was secretly offering bounties to the Taliban for the deaths of Americans, a full year earlier than has been previously reported. That's according to U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the intelligence. The assessment was included in at least one of President Donald Trump’s written daily intelligence briefings at the time, according to the officials. On Monday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany suggested that the intelligence community had not come to a conclusion on the information. "There was not a consensus among the intelligence community," McEnany said earlier on Monday. "And, in fact, there were dissenting opinions within the intelligence community, and it would not be elevated to the President until it was verified."Also on Monday, eight Republican lawmakers attended a White House briefing about explosive allegations that Russia secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing American troops in Afghanistan. TIJUANA, Mexico. (KGTV) -- The female passenger of the truck that plowed into a row of street vendors and vehicles waiting to cross the Mexican-U.S. border Monday afternoon says she and the driver were fleeing an attack before the chaotic scene broke out. Summer Draper, who was injured during the incident and is being treated at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, says she and her boyfriend were visiting Tijuana from Utah when the incident occurred.Draper tells 10News the couple went to Tijuana to shop when their truck was allegedly attacked while asking for directions. RELATED: Tijuana crash suspect drove on suspended license“If we would have stopped the car we would have been dead. We had to run from these people they were attacking us,” Draper said. Draper says the pair didn’t make it to the shops, but instead, tried to reroute to the Costco back by the border. That’s when she says they asked for help. “They said the only way they'd be able to help is if he drove.”Draper says her boyfriend Frank Stricker, 29, was driving and, while he was hesitant, gave in and let the man help. “Instead of going left to Costco he’s going right,” Draper said, adding that’s when her boyfriend started yelling for the man to pull over. “In two seconds the guy pulls over the car and there’s a cop.”Draper remembers hearing gunfire before she says Stricker hit the gas to get away. Minutes later, she says they reached the border, but while stopped in the lanes, they were attacked. Draper says the couple were shot at and their tires slashed. Images from the scene show their truck stopped in a mangled mess while a few dozen people surround the vehicle. One video shows Stricker lying on top of a bloodied Draper outside the truck, seemingly to protect her from the crowd. After the crash, Draper was taken to the hospital where she claims to have been tortured. “They tortured, they laughed at me they had everyone taking pictures of me they seriously did all of this with no medicine I mean I felt everything,” she said. According to Draper, she spent the night at the hospital before being brought to the U.S. for further treatment. Stricker is currently in the custody of Mexican authorities and is facing attempted homicide charges. Videos and images from the incident show that Stricker also suffered injuries, his condition is unknown at this time.According to court documents from Utah, Stricker has drug charges extending back to 2008, including possession or use of a controlled substance, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
