For two minutes, people and traffic in Israel today paused to remember the estimated 6 million lives lost during the Holocaust. The Times of Israel reports that at 10 a.m. local time, nationwide sirens blared as a day of remembrance began. It also shared this video to Facebook: The Holocaust was a genocide during World War II in which millions of European Jews were killed by Nazi Germany led by Adolf Hitler, between 1941 and 1945.Beginning in the early 1930s, the German government passed laws to exclude Jews from civil society. Many were moved to concentration camps, ghettos and detention sites.A new survey found that Americans are beginning to lack basic knowledge about the Holocaust. The survey found that nearly half of all Americans — 41 percent — couldn't identify Auschwitz, a concentration camp where an estimated 1.1 million Jews and minorities were killed at the hands of Nazis during World War II. Among millennials, that number rose to 66 percent. The survey also found that a significant portion of Americans don't understand the scale of the Holocaust. Former Vice President Joe Biden told supporters Tuesday night to "keep the faith" and have patience, as results trickle in from around the country. Biden spoke from his Delaware home just before 1 a.m. ETCar horns could be heard during his short speech, a familiar sound from Biden's drive-in rallies during the final weeks of the campaign. "We feel good about where we are," Biden told supporters, referencing recent projected wins in Minnesota and what Biden says are positive trends in Pennsylvania and other battleground states. Biden also repeated a sentiment he had shared earlier in the day, as he thanked supporters for their patience. “Presidents don’t decide what votes are counted and not counted; voters determine who’s president.”His comments were a little bit of a surprise, given several key states had not been called yet and Biden's comments earlier in the day. When asked if he would give a speech Tuesday night, Biden simply told reporters, “If there’s something to talk about tonight, I’ll talk about it,” according to the Washington Post.Shortly after Biden's speech, Trump addressed the nation from the White House and falsely claimed victory, and vowed to send the outcome of the Supreme Court should the results prove he lost. In a statement, Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon called the comments "outrageous, unprecedented and incorrect." There had been some questions earlier in the day whether Trump or Former Vice President Joe Biden would give any speech Tuesday night. There has been warnings all week it could take longer for states to count record-levels of mail-in ballots and in-person votes, and there may not be a winner projected in the presidential race Tuesday night.During a stop at his campaign headquarters, President Donald Trump said he was not thinking about any speeches Tuesday night yet. When asked if he had prepared one, he said, “No, I’m not thinking about a concession speech or acceptance speech yet. Hopefully we’ll only be doing one of those two. And you know, winning is easy, losing is never easy, not for me it’s not.”However, Tuesday night, Kellyanne Conway told ABC News the president is planning on giving a speech."You will hear from the president tonight," Conway said when asked if Trump would talk. "The President is expected to address the nation later from the East Room of the White House," Conway explained, adding that four years ago, Trump gave his speech at around 3 a.m.No word what time the president will talk. 2500

For just the third time on record, a fourth tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic basin by the end of June, marking an active start to hurricane season.Tropical Storm Dolly formed on Tuesday off the coast of Maine, packing top winds of 45 MPH as of the 5 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center. The system is not expected to strengthen into a hurricane, and should weaken into a depression over the next day.The system is notable as it’s the second-earliest system to use a “D” name in the Atlantic.Last month, experts from the National Hurricane Center said that the 2020 hurricane season would likely be above average.“NOAA’s analysis of current and seasonal atmospheric conditions reveals a recipe for an active Atlantic hurricane season this year,” said Neil Jacobs, Ph.D., acting NOAA administrator. “Our skilled forecasters, coupled with upgrades to our computer models and observing technologies, will provide accurate and timely forecasts to protect life and property.”Government forecasts projected there would be 13 to 19 tropical storms in the Atlantic. The last four hurricane seasons have been considered above average, with 2019 measuring as the fourth-most active Atlantic hurricane season in history. 1238

Frank Avruch, who was best known for playing Bozo the Clown, died Tuesday at the age of 89, according to his manager Stuart Hersh."While it's hard to say goodbye, we celebrate the legacy of joy and laughter he brought to millions of children around the world as Bozo the Clown on TV and as a UNICEF Ambassador and later as host of Channel 5's Great Entertainment and Boston's Man About Town," a statement from Avruch's family read. "Our dad loved the children of all ages who remembered being on his show and was always grateful for their kind words. We will miss him greatly."Bozo made his television debut in 1949, portrayed by Pinto Colvig. In 1965, "Bozo's Big Top" became a syndicated series in local markets across the country.Avruch played Bozo from 1959 to 1970 and was the first nationally syndicated version of the clown. Other performers of the popular character were Willard Scott, Bob Bell and Joey D'Auria.Avruch worked at WCVB in Boston for more than 40 years and was inducted into the National Television Academy's Gold Circle."He had a heart of gold," Hersh said in a statement to CNN. "He brought the Bozo the Clown character to life better than anyone else's portrayal of Bozo the Clown."Avruch is survived by his wife, Betty and their two sons.The-CNN-Wire 1284

Fox is giving Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" a second chance at life. The network announced on Friday the mutli-cam comedy has been picked up for a new season, roughly one year after its cancellation by ABC caused an uproar among some, who alleged star Tim Allen's conservative political views played a part in the network's decision to ax the series."Excited?," said Allen in a statement via the network. "Team ['Last Man Standing'] was in the sixth inning, ahead by four runs, stands were packed and then for no reason, they call off the game. It leaves you sitting in the dugout, holding a bat and puzzled. Now we get the news from FOX that it's time to get back out on that diamond -- hell yes, I'm excited!"The series is set to air on Fox during the 2018-19 TV season. The comedy was canceled by ABC in May 2017, a move that drew criticism from Allen and prompted fans to create petitions for its return."Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years," Allen tweeted at the time.ABC denied Allen's political views played a role in its decision, saying the show's cancellation was motivated by "business and scheduling reasons."Among those business reasons -- "Last Man Standing" was produced for ABC by 20th Century Fox Television, and network ownership plays a large role in programming decision. (Meaning, a TV series produced by a broadcast network's in-house studio has an edge over one that is not when decision time rolls around.)The 'Roseanne' effect? Why networks shouldn't count on an encoreNotably, a year later, ABC found a hit in its reboot of "Rosanne," starring Roseanne Barr, who is both a supporter of President Trump and plays one on the show."Last Man Standing" averaged 8.3 million viewers for ABC during the 2016-2017. It was the network's second most-watched comedy, after "Modern Family," a release from Fox said. The decision to bring "Last Man Standing" back from the dead comes one day after Fox canceled a trio of comedies, including "The Mick," "The Last Man on Earth," and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" -- much to the chagrin of fans."I'm sure audiences will be curious to see what we look like after all these years," Allen added in his statement. "Oh, has it only been one year? Well, just goes to show you -- a lot can happen in a year."The-CNN-Wire 2311
