Pence later signed an amendment that prevented the law from discriminating against LGBTQ customers.Pence attended the Games in Pyeongchang and tweeted at Rippon saying that "we are FOR YOU. Don't let fake news distract you. I am proud of you and ALL OF OUR GREAT athletes and my only hope for you and all of #TeamUSA is to bring home the gold."After the Opening Ceremony at the Games, Rippon appeared in a photo posted to Instagram by slopestyle skier Gus Kenworthy. Kenworthy and Rippon are the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete in the Games.The photo showed them hugging with the caption: "I feel incredibly honored to be here in Korea competing for the US and I'm so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this amazing guy! One of the men convicted of killing Michael Jordan’s dad, James Jordan, will be paroled in 2023, according to multiple reports.Larry Demery and his friend Daniel Green were arrested and tried for murder in the 1993 shooting death of James Jordan. The elder Jordan had stopped at a rest stop for the night to sleep while on his way home from a funeral. Prosecutors said Demery and Green shot him, stole his car and then got rid of his body.In 1996, Demery and Green were sentenced to life in prison. Demery was spared the death penalty at the time because attorneys claimed he did not pull the trigger and he felt remorse, according to the Raleigh News and Observer. Demery pleaded guilty and testified against Green.North Carolina’s Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission released a short statement announcing they approved Demery to take part in a vocational and scholastic program as part of parole. His release date is set for August 6, 2023.Demery was sentenced under old guidelines and is eligible for parole. He’s been determined to get back into the ocean. While it’s been a long process, he finally made it out spearfishing. Josh Fleming owns Meric Spearfishing in Oceanside, he has been helping get Webre-Hayes ready to dive back into the ocean. “He gave me a gift certificate saying whatever it costs and he got me all geared up.” Fleming gave Webre-Hayes a new diving suit, speargun and other gear to help him prepare for his spearfishing adventures. Webre-Hayes was attacked by the great white shark during his first time lobster diving. He underwent hours of surgery, got one thousand stitches and has continued months of physical therapy. He’s been through intensive therapy at Equinox and Nakoa in Carlsbad. “I love the ocean it’s my second home basically.” Webre-Hayes tells 10News. The shark broke the top of his humorous, tore off his rotator cuff, broke the scapula in three different places and he’s missing parts of his deltoid and lateral muscles. Webre-Hayes tells 10News, “It was a gnarly bite and its crazy that I’m going to be throwing out the first pitch at the Padres game.” Before spearfishing came baseball. He was a left-handed pitcher until his left side was attacked back in September. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old girl told Oceanside Police a man, possibly homeless, tried to kidnap her Thursday morning as she walked to El Camino High School. The girl was walking east on Mesa Drive near Vanilla Way at 7:20 a.m. and passed the man heading the opposite direction. After she walked by, the man turned and grabbed her in a bear hug, police said. The man struggled with the girl, who was able to break free when he fell to the ground, according to investigators. The girl arrived at school and notified security about the incident. Oceanside Police units and a drone were deployed to find the man but were not successful. The girl described the man as dirty or "possibly homeless" according to police, white, in his 50s, 5’9 inches tall, and very thin. He was wearing a tan pullover sweatshirt with a zipper and baggy black jeans. Police said the man may be bald on top of his head with short light brown hair on the sides. He also had a scab on the right side of his neck, the girl reported. Oceanside officers are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Family Protection Unit at 760-435-4690. 1144
