ATLANTA (AP) — A federal judge has sentenced a California man to serve 35 years in prison for traveling to Atlanta to have sex with a 9-year-old girl.The U.S. attorney's office in Atlanta said Tuesday that 40-year-old Craig Alan Castaneda of Imperial Beach must also register as a sex offender and serve 10 years supervised release after his prison term.Castaneda was convicted in December.RELATED: Alabama governor signs bill permitting chemical castration for sex offendersAn undercover FBI agent posted an ad on Craigslist in April 2015 posing as a mother seeking a "teacher" for her 9-year-old daughter. Prosecutors say Castaneda responded, describing his prior experience molesting children.Castaneda continued to communicate with the undercover agent for several weeks and made plans to travel to Atlanta. AUSTIN, Texas – More people have now voted early in Texas for Tuesday’s general election than voted in total in the state during the 2016 election.As of Thursday, data on the secretary of state’s website shows a total of 9,009,850 Texans had voted either by mail or in person, and there’s still one more day of early voting in the state.That number surpasses the record-breaking 8,969,226 votes that were cast in the state during the 2016 election.The high voting turnout signals that Texas may be a true battleground state in the 2020 election.Democrats are trying to take advantage of the enthusiasm to flip the traditionally Republican state and collect its 38 electoral votes. Though, pollsters at FiveThirtyEight show President Donald Trump is still “slightly” favored to win the state, with a 66% chance. That’s according to the website’s forecast, which is based on polling averages.Still, Joe Biden's campaign appears to see potential in Texas and is even sending running mate Kamala Harris to the state Friday to campaign in the final leg of the presidential race. 1081

Ashland University in Ohio is offering a new ,000 scholarship to talented Fortnite players."Fortnite Battle Royale" will be offered in fall 2018 as part of the university's esports program.The AU esports team will be the first known program in the country to add the game to its official offerings. Head Coach Josh Buchanan is excited to add the popular game to the college's gaming titles."Fortnite appeals to both the core and casual gaming audience," said Buchanan in a news release. "We're excited to provide this platform for gamers who want to showcase their skills in a more competitive space."The team at Ashland will arrange four-player teams that practice regularly and compete together.Scholarships will be awarded to players based on skill level and academic requirements.The university plans to conduct open tryouts for Fortnite players next school year. Ashland already offers League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Rocket League in their esports program. The coach hopes eventually other schools will for programs to set up collegiate leagues for the team to compete against.  1184

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Medical Association has created a handy chart to help Americans determine how risky everyday activities are when it comes to contracting the novel coronavirus.From opening the mail to going to a bar, TMA’s COVID-19 Task Force and Committee on Infectious Diseases have ranked activities on their risk level for COVID-19.The activities are broken down into these levels: low risk, low-moderate risk, moderate risk, moderate-high risk, and high risk.TMA says the levels are based on input from the physician members of the task force and the committee, who worked from the assumption that – no matter the activity – participants were taking as many safety precautions as they can.No matter the activity, TMA says it’s best if you stay home if possible, wear a mask and maintain at least 6 feet of distance when you have to go out, and practice safe hand hygiene.TMA’s task force is made up of 15 physicians who are experts and leaders in medicine, some of whom are in direct patient care.The task force has researched and written in the neighborhood of 25 whitepapers and guidance documents to help inform Texas physicians as they battle the COVID-19 coronavirus. They created those papers and guidance to help inform and guide the more than 53,000 TMA members across the state as they battle the pandemic and care for Texas patients. 1365
