This holiday season, you may be stocking up on canned drinks for parties and guests. Well, you'll want to clean off those cans before handing them out!Investigator reporter Jace Larson tested soda cans for bacteria, and what he found was pretty gross.The cans tested came from a variety of places, including grocery stores, convenience stores, vending machines and cans stored in a home. All but one of the cans tested had mold on it.The highest mold count was 600 colonies of mold. That can came from a grocery store.This type of exposure could make people with compromised immune systems or lung disease sick.To put that number of colonies into perspective-- a flooded home could have 2,000-plus colonies of mold, while a condemned home could have roughly levels around 36,000.However, microbiologist Helene Ver Eecke, with the Metropolitan State University of Denver, says the 600 colonies of mold isn’t really a cause for concern.“Regular microbial load that we are constantly dosing ourselves with everything that we touch with everything we breathe,” Ver Eecke says. “It's just part of being human.”One soda can did test for bacteria levels that would be slightly concerning. The can—purchased from a convenience store--had the highest levels, with 3,700 bacteria colonies on it.But compared to dry cereal mixes, which can have up to 100,000 bacteria colonies and deemed safe to consume by FDA standards, the colonies found on that can were significantly less."There was one sample that came from a convenience store that had a higher bacterial count than samples, which makes sense because they were probably stocked probably appropriate for people to wear gloves when stocking," explains Ver Eecke.If you’re worried about the amount of bacteria, Ver Eecke recommends seeking other options."There may be other options for you a bottle or other things to try to help keep you safe." 1901

There's a new warning about makeup. A watchdog group says it has found asbestos in several products, sold in a store targeted to teens and young girls. What do you think of when you hear the word asbestos?“I think of like commercials like where your loved one has been exposed to asbestos and you die,” one woman says. “I'm like, 'Oh my God,' it's terrible.”Another woman said, “Like in a house that's like shut down forever” she says. “There's asbestos in a house.”You don't usually think of makeup.Danny Katz with U.S. PIRG, a consumer watchdog group said it tested more than a dozen make up products and found "high levels of asbestos" in three. They're all sold at Claire's, a store with products aimed toward girls and young women.“It's completely unacceptable to have asbestos in these products,” Katz says. “Asbestos if you inhale it or ingested it can lead to lung cancer it can lead to mesothelioma, which is cancer of the internal organs, and if you apply it over skin over time it can also increase the risk of skin cancer."Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can be found in talc, a common product in many makeup products. But Katz says it's a company's responsibility to make sure the talc it uses hasn't been contaminated.“We need Claire's to remove these products from the shelves and we need them to figure out how asbestos got in their products to begin with,” Katz says. “We need Congress and the FDA to take action. We need to ban asbestos from beauty care products and makeup.”Right now, Katz and U.S. PIRG are urging us to avoid products with talc until federal laws change.It's not the first time Claire's has come under scrutiny for this. TORREY PINES (KGTV) - Two paragliders, one from San Diego and one from Orange County, died after colliding in mid-air and crashing into a cliff Saturday afternoon.It happened near Torrey Pines Gliderport around 2:45 p.m. Police confirmed both paragliders were men. One of the men was 61-years-old and the other man was 43-years-old, officials said. Both of the men were certified .Witnesses sat stunned when they watched the paragliders become intertwined, "I initially heard the collapse of the chute... I heard a collision, and some kind of sound, and looked over and saw two people falling from the sky," Madeline Henderson said."It was spinning but it was like in slow motion and I could see the guy, I don't know what he was trying to do but I felt bad for them," Irene Marquez said from the passenger seat of a car. She said it was her first time at the Gliderport and was traumatized by what she saw.Rescuers have recovered both of the bodies.Witnesses say the paragliders collided mid-air, a chute collapsed, and they spiraled to the ground and hit the cliffs. 1076
