LAKE CHARLES, La. – They say, "not all heroes wear capes," and a group of hospital workers in Louisiana proved that.Despite raging winds, rain leaking through windows, no running water and no air conditioning, nurses and other staff at a Lake Charles hospital kept their most critical baby patients safe and sound during Hurricane Laura last week.The team of 20 stayed behind at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital while the Category 4 storm tore through the city. They cared for 19 babies in their NICU.Some of the babies were on respirators and ventilators, and others had been born extremely premature.Many of the infants had been at the community’s smaller women's hospital. They had to be transported through rough conditions to the larger facility where they rode out the storm.The babies have since been transferred to other hospitals across the state because the hospital was still without water as of Thursday night. 928

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A Lee County, Florida woman is fed up with her delivered packages being roughed up.Nora Martin has discovered her stuff in some weird places. "They've ended up all over the front of my house," Martin said. "Even in the flower bed."Martin and her husband set up a surveillance camera to see how their postal carrier delivered packages.They couldn't believe their eyes as they watched their son's box tossed from the delivery car's window with zero care.  "10 feet from my door, and the best she could do was hurl my package out the window," Martin said.Martin said she was upset because her son was the one who ordered collectibles. She was the one who saw his disappointment when he saw the damaged box."He works very hard for his money. (KGTV) – After being closed by the city in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the La Mesa attraction known as the “secret stairs” was reopened to the public.The city announced Wednesday that the popular destination near Windsor Drive is open with specific social distancing guidelines in place.The stairs, widely used as a community trail or exercise route, was shut down on March 24 due to visitors not following social distancing rules.Despite the closure, some residents told the city that warning signs noting guidelines were being ignored.With the reopening, city officials are asking visitors to know the following before going to the stairs:WEAR A MASK: Everyone should wear a mask covering their face at all times while in this public space.MAINTAIN DISTANCE: Keep physical distance of 6 feet between individuals from different households and prevent crowding.PLAN AHEAD: Visit at times or days that are less crowded.KNOW WHEN TO STAY HOME: Those with underlying medical conditions should avoid public spaces when others are present.
