SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - South Bay Pentecostal Church has been involved in a legal battle since May regarding worshiping indoors, and officials think Friday could be the light at the end of the tunnel.Senior Pastor Arthur Hodges believes during a motions hearing Friday morning the church will be granted permission to reopen indoors.His hope comes from the latest rulings by several judges.On Dec. 3, the Supreme Court ruled places of worship in New York could reopen, saying restrictions meant to curb the pandemic violated the First Amendment of the Constitution.After that ruling, the high court issued an unsigned order to California judges to reconsider Gov. Gavin Newsom's restrictions.On Wednesday, a judge ruled restaurants could reopen indoors in San Diego."That absolutely makes us hopeful, and I've told restaurateurs, business owners, whatever, we're fighting for you, too. Now we have a bigger gun than they do. We've got the Constitution, OK; they don't have that. but they're finding ways to get around it with the right to assemble," Hodges said.Hodges said back in May their initial lawsuit was voted down 5-4 by the Supreme Court.Hodges believes under a high court that shifted majority when Judge Amy Coney Barrett replaced the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, they will prevail."If religious liberties are lost, you can mark it down your personal liberties are going to be lost," Hodges said, arguing this lawsuit is to protect more than places of worship.Hodges said if they win this legal battle it will pave the way for the rest of the country. 1563

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some San Diego salon owners say the regulations released by the state may not be enough to help save their businesses.Like other business owners around San Diego and across California, salon owner Season McKesson has been trying to navigate through the many changes brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.Through the pandemic, she and other business owners have had to deal with closures, implementing safety precautions, and obtaining personal protective equipment.RELATED: New guidance issued for hair/nail salons, barbershops to move outdoorsOn Monday, the state announced updated guidelines for hair salons and barbershops to operate outdoors.McKesson was prepared to reopen her salon to operate outside until she read the regulations thoroughly. According to the state’s guidelines, salons can reopen but they cannot offer any chemical-related treatments and cannot shampoo customers.“At first, I was trying to be optimistic; you know, giving our industry a way out to come back … but after they dropped the bomb that it’s only haircuts. Reality sets in, and there’s absolutely no way people are going to make ends meet,” she said.McKesson told ABC 10News the guidelines cuts what she believes are essential to the salon experience.She added, “You go to a salon for a certain experience and you’re going to sit and get sprayed down in 100-degree weather. There’s no way.”McKesson is also concerned about the space to operate outdoors, saying not many salons have patios and would have to move into parking spaces. She is similarly worried about the cleanliness of working outside.“It’s not sanitary. It’s not a controlled environment; sitting behind a chair is a controlled environment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several City Heights homes were evacuated Tuesday afternoon after authorities responding to a medical call found possible military ordnance. The incident began after San Diego Police were called to the scene to investigate a death at 50th and Wightman Streets around 2 p.m. Shortly after police arrived, San Diego Fire Rescue says bomb units responded to the area after what is believed to be a military ordnance was discovered.
