SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Huey Lewis and The News fans disappointed by the band’s canceled concerts have a chance to enjoy its hit songs at a musical, Heart of Rock and Roll, set to debut at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre in September.Lewis, the band’s lead singer and namesake, announced Friday he was dealing with the sudden loss of his hearing."Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most my hearing," Lewis said in a message to his fans Friday. "Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can't hear music enough to sing."Lewis went on to explain that doctors believe he has the inner ear disorder Meniere's disease and said he should not perform until he improves."Needless to say, I feel horrible about this, and wish to sincerely apologize to all the fans who've already bought tickets and were planning to come see us," Lewis added. "[I] hope that one day soon I'll be able to perform again."Fans will be able to hear the 80s rocker’s hits in Heart of Rock and Roll, which runs September 6 through October 21. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — U.S. Coast Guard officials Wednesday offloaded thousands of pounds of cocaine in San Diego after it was seized in international waters.The narcotics seizures occurred in four separate incidents off the coasts of Mexico, Central, and South America between July and early October.Alert (WMEC-630): Two cases seizing about 4,000 pounds of cocaine;Robert Ward (WPC-1130): One case seizing about 1,500 pounds of cocaine; andSeneca (WMEC-906): One case seizing about 1,400 pounds of cocaine.The narcotics have a street value of more than million, according to the Coast Guard."I am extremely proud of this crew for doing their part to keep these dangerous drugs off the streets," said Cmdr. Tyson Scofield, Alert’s commanding officer. "The Eastern Pacific Ocean is a challenging environment, especially on a ship that is in her 50th year of service, yet this crew persevered to disrupt the illegal flow of narcotics that fuels instability in Central and South America."The Coast Guard has increased its presence in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Basic as part of its Western Hemisphere Strategy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A judge ruled Friday that Alvin Quarles, known as the “Bolder Than Most Rapist," will continue to stay in a state hospital until at least December. A status hearing was held Friday morning to get an update on the location of where he will live. The search is still ongoing to find a location, and the judge has given the court a 90-day extension to do that. In the meantime, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office has issued an appeal to pump the brakes on Quarles’ release. The Deputy District Attorney, Jessica Coto, says they are attempting to make sure Quarles is not released into the public before he is ready. “The evidence showed that the release of Mr. Quarles was premature and that he still poses a danger to the community,” says Coto. There have been many evidentiary hearings during this process that have not been open to the public. Quarles' victims feel they should have a right to know what was said behind closed doors. The DA's office is hoping that will be reversed during the appeal process. “It makes me shaky for myself personally, and it makes me shaky for the young people of our community, who is his demographic, and who I think really will be at risk,” said survivor Mary Taylor. In the 1980s, Quarles sexually assaulted more than 10 women, often holding them at knifepoint, forcing their boyfriends or husbands to watch as be brutally attacked them. He was sentenced to 50 years behind bars but was moved to Colinga State Hospital years ago to get treatment for sexually violent predators. Quarles was initially set to be housed in Jacumba Hot Springs, but that idea was shut down. Another status hearing has been set for Dec. 6. 1694

Gavin Newsom named professional skateboarder Tony Hawk and television personality and actor RuPaul Charles to the 13th class of the California Hall of Fame. Hawk and Charles, both from San Diego, will be inducted alongside writer Maya Angelou, Olympic medalist soccer player Brandi Chastain, astrophysicist France A. Córdova, author Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, Reverend James M. Lawson, Jr., actor and comedian George Lopez, iconic chef Wolfgang Puck, and winemaker Helen M.
