SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Humane Society warned pet owners this week to be safe with their animals while exercising after a dog collapsed in hot weather. A dog named Joey was half a mile down the Three Sisters Falls trail in Descanso Saturday when he started panting heavily, a sign of heatstroke. “Dogs are lower to the ground, absorbing heat from above and below,” according to the SDHS. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three six-month-old wallaby joeys are being hand-raised at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park before they are old enough to be welcomed into the park’s mob of wallabies.Photos released by the zoo show the wallaby joeys spending time in their pouches where the zoo says they are most comfortable.The wallaby joeys, which currently weigh between two and three pounds each, are being bottle-fed.Once fully grown, wallaby females can weigh between 26 to 35 pounds.The wallabies will join numerous other red-necked wallabies and gray kangaroos in an exhibit at the soon-to-open Walkabout Australia. 616

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego county Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a man died following what was believed to be a fight at Pala Casino early Saturday morning.According to the department, the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance from the 4700 block of Highway 76. He was pronounced dead just before 8 a.m.After an initial investigation, the department believes he was in a fight with another man in the parking lot of Pala Casino around 6:30 a.m.The department’s homicide unit is investigating, but at this time, no further details or identities of the victim or suspect have been released. 621

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The officer who saved two twin toddlers and their dad after their father drove off Sunset Cliffs was recognized for his heroic efforts this week.San Diego Police K9 officer Jonathan Wiese was awarded the Medal of Valor and Heroic Act award from the California Surf Lifesaving Association and United States Lifesaving Association for his efforts to save the three people on June 13.SDPD received a call about a suicidal man with twin two-year-old girls driving with the intention of careening off the Coronado Bridge. You're not going to stand there on the cliff and watch it happen," he told ABC 10News in June. "And by then four or five other cops had shown up so I pretty much threw the end of the leash to them and then I said hang on and I just jumped off."The officer also performed rescue breathing on one of the girls who was limp after being pulled from the wreck.Wiese is the same officer who helped apprehend the suspected Poway synagogue shooter in April 2019. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Food Bank on Thursday selected 35 nonprofit organizations around the county with the goal of giving them the food and supplies they need to continue helping families in their area.La Maestra Community Health Center provides health and support services to families from the South Bay to East County. Many of those they serve come from low-income households.Before the COVID-19 pandemic, they helped about 300 families a week. Since then, that number has doubled, and they’re now feeding close to 600 families a week.At a news conference with mayors from San Diego, Chula Vista, and Escondido, the San Diego Food Bank announced the kickoff of their “Super Pantries” program, where they have partnered with 35 pre-selected organizations.Instead of holding the mass distribution food events that they’ve done in the past, the Food Bank will now focus on providing these organizations with food and supplies.San Diego Food Bank President/CEO James Floros said, “Now with the grass roots approach, they can go into their communities and get what they need.”Each organization will also get a check for ,000.
