EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The man charged with the brutal beating of an El Cajon Police officer inside a KFC appeared at a preliminary hearing in court Wednesday.Officer Jose Sioson was preparing to question Daniel Cook about stealing sodas from a Dollar Tree store when Cook attacked him at the restaurant on Fletcher Parkway, police said.MTS bus driver Iesha Booker witnessed the attack and grabbed the officer’s own radio to call for help when he was knocked unconscious.“I just grabbed his walkie talkie. I didn't know how to work it, I just grabbed it and just kept screaming in there they have an officer down, they have an officer down,” Booker said.Officer Sioson was taken to the hospital and released after several surgeries. "I was just doing what I thought that anyone would do for us or for me."Cook, who has previous convictions for assault and resisting arrest, is being held on half a million dollars bail. Dozens of children in South Georgia were potentially exposed to COVID-19 at a Christmas celebration last week after it was later discovered that Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus had tested positive for the virus.Long County, Georgia — a county located about an hour west of Savannah — hosted its annual Christmas parade last Thursday which included a tree lighting and a photo opp with Santa. At the time, Santa and Mrs. Claus were not exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. However, two days later, both learned they had tested positive for the virus.Both WSAV-TV and WJCL-TV in Savannah both report that as many as 50 children took their photos with Santa last Thursday. Dozens of people are gathering outside of the TCF Center in Downtown Detroit, trying to get inside to challenge votes which are being counted.People outside of the center say they are not being let in to challenge the votes. The Detroit Health Department said TCF Center is at capacity and that's what police are enforcing.Republicans are hoping to challenge the vote and claimed they were unfairly being kept outside where the absentee ballots are being counted. (KGTV) -- Christian Unified Schools of San Diego welcomed junior and high school students back to campus on Tuesday.The El Cajon-based school district brought elementary school students back to school last week, and district officials said now it's time for the other grades to join.The school's website lists many of the precautions they're taking, including multiple temperature checks. Students will get their temperature checked before they are dropped off at school, and then again before entering the building.Everyone on campus must wear a mask or face shield, and students must wash or sanitize their hands before they enter each classroom.The district says social distancing will be observed in all classrooms. Plexiglass barriers will be at each desk.All the classrooms are equipped with cleaning stations to be used between each class.Teachers will hold school religious services outside, and chapel will have limited seating.The district says each night staff will clean the entire facility. 1028
