After a brief flirtation with resurrection, Nickelodeon's "Double Dare" is back -- for real, this time.The game show favorite will return to the network this summer to give "a new generation of kids the chance to compete in the messiest and most physically challenging competition of their lives," Nickelodeon announced Wednesday.The decision to bring the series back comes about a year and a half after Nickelodeon paid tribute to the game show with a 30th Anniversary special."Double Dare" ran on Nickelodeon from 1986-93 and was revived for brief run in 2000.The original show was hosted by Marc Summers and co-hosted by Robin Marella.It is not yet known who will host the new iteration. A woman was killed Monday morning in an apparent alligator attack on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said.Witnesses told investigators the woman was walking her dog near a lagoon in the coastal resort about 9:30 a.m. ET when she was attacked and pulled underwater by the animal, the BCSO said.The BCSO Environmental Crimes Unit and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are searching for the alligator, reported to be about 8 feet in length.Emergency responders found the woman's body in the lagoon. An autopsy is being conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina to determine the cause of the death. The victim has not been identified.The dog did not appear to be harmed, authorities said. The attack happened off Wood Duck Road in Sea Pines Plantation, the BCSO said.Alligator attacks on humans are rare but not unheard of in the Deep South. (CNS) - A 61-year-old Alpine man is the first person in San Diego County to test positive for West Nile virus this year, local health officials reported Wednesday.The man, whose name was withheld, was hospitalized and has recovered. The California Department of Public Health confirmed his WNV diagnosis on Tuesday.The man said he had traveled to Yuma, Arizona where it is believed he contracted the virus, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency.Since Jan. 1, there have been two West Nile virus positive detections in mosquitoes during routine trapping by the county vector control program, one in the Del Mar Area and the other in the Black Mountain Ranch area.There were only three human cases of West Nile virus in San Diego County in 2019 and two in 2018.The state has reported 11 people infected statewide so far in 2020, including a child in neighboring Orange County who was diagnosed sometime last week and was hospitalized but is expected to recover.West Nile virus is mainly a bird disease but can be transmitted to people by certain species of mosquitoes that first feed on an infected bird or animal and then a bite a person.Around 80% of people who become infected with West Nile virus never know it and never suffer any symptoms. About one in five people who are infected develop a fever and other symptoms such as headache, nausea, fatigue, skin rash or swollen glands. About 1 out of 150 infected people could become extremely ill and die.People older than 50 and who have underlying medical conditions are at heightened risk.Public health and environmental health officials recommend following the county's "prevent, protect, report" guidelines, which are designed to help residents protect themselves from mosquitoes that transit West Nile virus as well as invasive Aedes mosquitoes that can transmit tropical diseases, including Zika, dengue and chikungunya.Dump out or remove any item inside or outside homes that can hold water, such as plant saucers, rain gutters, buckets, garbage cans, toys, old tires and wheelbarrows. Although four people were killed, and 10 others were wounded by a gunman targeting a Northern California elementary school on Tuesday, authorities said the incident could have been more tragic.According to Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston, when school administrators heard gunshots ringing out nearly 1/4 mile from the school, the school immediately went into lockdown mode without the prompting of police. This, Johnston said, prevented an even worse tragedy at the school.“The shooter took his vehicle and rammed their fence and gate and entered the (school) grounds on foot with a semi-automatic rifle,” Johnston said. “It appears he couldn’t make access to the room and he gave up and reentered the vehicle.”Johnston confirmed that no children from the school were killed, but one was wounded. Johnston said that after being thwarted at the school, he went on a rampage in the community, as there were seven different shooting locations throughout Rancho Tehama.The Corning Union School District commended the effort of its employees. "School staff is commended for their courageous and professional response to this terrible incident. Students were excited, bags were packed, lots of money was paid. But on Tuesday — the day before the trip — Discovery Tours, the company contracted by the school district to handle the trip, canceled. What's 511 students multiplied by 5 each? That's 2,505 paid.Discovery Tours told Mentor Public Schools it had to cancel the trip because the company was unable to receive final confirmation for the hotel rooms. The school district said it contacted the hotel itself to get more information."We were told by hotel management that, under advice from the hotel's legal counsel, all they could disclose to us is: Discovery Tours was unable to meet the contractual obligations," Superintendent Bill Porter wrote in a letter to parents.However, the school district said Discovery Tours told them otherwise.
