The suspect was hospitalized on Thursday following the shooting due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hospital officials said the 16-year-old suspect was in grave condition. Tucked away near the Rocky Mountains is a gateway of history. The town of Nederland, Colorado is a place people from all over the world come to see its beauty, and history. The small mountain town is full of restaurants with its aroma filling the air, and the sound of the creek is soothing many people never want to leave. But what draws tourists to this place is the one person that never left. “People come here because they’re curious about the Frozen Dead Guy,” says Anne Taylor, the woman who runs the Nederland visitor center. “The man’s name – we call him Grandpa – Bredo Morstol. His family in Norway believed in cryonics, and when he passed away there, they sent him to a lab in California. And some point in the 90s, his grandson was here and he decided to have him sent here to the property that he had here up on the hill.”According to Taylor, in 1993, Bredo believed in cryonics and the possibility of being brought back to life after the advanced of modern medicine. But one question comes to mind to a lot of tourists: how is this legal?“Well, it’s not legal,” says Taylor. “At that point, there was no ordinance about it, because no one would think of having an ordinance about it. When this all came about, and it had to go to town council, the trustees passed an ordinance. Nobody else can do this, but grandpa got grandfathered in, so he’s still alive.”And year round, there is one man who takes care of Bredo. “Every two weeks, I come up here and bring in the dry ice,” says Brad Wickham, the caretaker of Bredo. “I take care of other needs that might need to be done, like trash off the property or keeping other people off the property.”Bredo is tucked away in a shed on what was his property. In honor of the town’s unique resident, Nederland holds an annual celebration that started in 2002 called 1835

Tucked away in the small town of Eaton, Colorado, there’s a time machine capsule dedicated to one type of technology, and one man who has dedicated 35 years of his life to this collection. “My museum is called Lee Maxwell’s Old and Unusual Collection,” said 89-year-old Lee Maxwell. “I took up this hobby about 35 years ago, and it’s turned into an obsession. My collection is unusual that’s for sure.”Maxwell collects washing machines. He is the owner of the only washing machine museum in the country. “Why? Well a lot of people ask me why,” Maxwell said. “Since I’m not a golfer or fisherman, and I don’t like to bungee jump, I couldn’t afford corvettes, so I chose washing machines.”Maxwell said he owns a washing machine from every state, some dating back to the 1800s. “Over 1,500 machines,” Maxwell said. “The number is kind of a secret though, because I told my wife, Barbara, I would stop at a thousand. Keep that under your breath. 1,500 machines, 1,500 stories.” For 35 years, Maxwell traveled the country collecting washing machines to bring back to his home of 17 acres. “I spent a lot of time here the last 35 years,” Maxwell said, while standing in his warehouse full of washing machines. “I have to find a good home for it. There are some folks around the US that are interested in it. I want to find a home close to northern Colorado. I’m eighty-nine years old now, I would like to go eleven more years to really see it blossom.” Maxwell said he has a few organizations interested, but he did not want to give any more details. He hopes it will continue to grow as the largest washing machine museum in the country. “There are three attributes you have to have to be a washing machine collector,” Maxwell said. “You have to have space, you have to be insane, and you have to have a saint for a wife. And I got all three.” 1851

The United States Army wants more soldiers. Last year, the recruitment goal was gaining 76,500 new recruits. The Army didn’t make that mission, enlisting only about 70,000 soldiers. This year, the recruitment goal is getting 68,000 new pairs of boots on the ground. Finding qualified candidates, however, isn’t what it used to be. “Ten years ago, it was pretty easy to find qualified individuals,” says U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Robert Dodge. “In the last couple years, it’s gone down.”In an attempt to help with recruiting, the US Army is trying something brand new this year: it built a gaming trailer on an 18-wheeler that will be taken across the country with the idea of getting more young people interested in joining the military through video games. “It is a way to attract a younger audience,” Sgt. Dodge says. “Sixty percent of Americans have some sort of gaming console.”Sgt. Dodge says 71 percent of Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 do not qualify to for military service. The reasons range from drug history to health problems with obesity being the number one disqualifier. Now, recruiters are shifting gears and setting their sights on a new pool of potential soldiers: gamers.“We’re looking for that 17 to 24 year old and we’re looking for the best and the brightest that America has to offer,” Sgt. Dodge says.So far, this tactic appears to be raising some interest in attracting potential soldiers. At 20 years old, Adrian Bugarin is in the age range the military is looking for.“Definitely something to think about, especially with this, because I want to get into computer science, too,” he says. “I know they do stuff with college. So, I’ll definitely look into that.” 1708
