BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday exchanged congratulatory messages with his Ecuadorian counterpart, Rafael Correa, on the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between their two countries.

"I really appreciate China's contribution to South-South cooperation, particularly the agreement between China and the United States on very ambitious climate change target by 2020, which is a significant one," said the UN secretary general.

He called on both sides to treat and develop their relations from the global perspective and in line with the principle of equality, mutual benefit and respect, and safeguard common interests through frank dialogues and friendly cooperation, in a bid to bridge the differences and rivalry and respond to the common challenges together.

The finance ministers said they welcome the efforts of APEC members to support capacity building and project development for infrastructure PPPs, including China's decision to commit 5 million U.S. dollars from the China Poverty Reduction and Regional Cooperation fund in Asian Development Bank.
